Among all the other allegations and counter allegations in the Twisha Sharma case , one aspect concerns me as a sexual medicine doctor and a counselor - that of the mother-in-law casting aspersions that the lady had multiple partners in the past. In this day and age, young people ARE having more than one partner before they get married. It most likely is not platonic, perhaps it's not sexual all the way, and in quite a few cases, it is sexual too. If a man and woman have consensual premarital sex before marriage, and if a man and woman don't have any issues with having previous partner before marriage, then the in-laws shouldn't have problem too. Afterall, all this would have been discussed before marriage between the couple itself. If either man and woman who wish to get married or if future in-laws have problem with previous partners, then they shouldn't be getting married with one another at all. No point marrying and then crying foul. Also, in this day and age, one can't expect most unmarried people in their 30s not to have sexual relations. This goes against the whole biology of a human being.
One thing I've learnt from Twisha Sharma's case is girls please normalise buying your own house, so if your sasural "DOESN'T TREAT" you well or your mayka asks you to "ADJUST", you can leave without feeling helpless.
