Happy Anniversary, Cathe: A Reflection on 51 Years of Marriage Cathe, can you believe it? 51 years of marriage! You were just 15, I was 18, and somehow, despite the odds—and let’s be honest, the sheer audacity of youth—we made it. I still remember that day like it was yesterday. Pastor Chuck Smith standing there with that signature smile, confidently proclaiming, “I now pronounce Greg and Laurie are man and wife!” We laughed then, and honestly, we’ve been laughing ever since. But what’s really remarkable isn’t just the passage of time—it’s how we’ve filled it. We’ve lived, we’ve loved, we’ve laughed until we cried, and yes, we’ve cried until we found our way back to laughter. We’ve prayed together, held each other up through life’s storms, and walked side by side in every season. In a world where commitments are often fleeting, we’ve stayed—not out of obligation, but with joy. And that, my love, is no small thing. Whatever accomplishments people might credit me with, let me just say this clearly: I couldn’t have done any of it without you. You’ve been the first person I’ve wanted to share every triumph with, and the one I’ve leaned on through every trial. Two really did become one—not just in some poetic, symbolic sense, but in the real, sometimes messy, always beautiful way life demands. And yes, I’ve often joked that between the two of us, we have one complete brain. I forget something, and you remember it. You forget something, and—well—sometimes I remember. It’s not perfect, but hey, it works! So here it is, plain and simple: Happy Anniversary, Cathe.
