@teejohnny
Queer settler focused on social work, mental health, climate adaptation, decolonization, equity, belonging, media, comics, video games, politics, & dogs!

As I was showing the consequences of the BC NDP's terrible drug policies, two social workers tried to stop me from filming. Absolutely insane!

Triggered girl at comedy show…

One of the most chilling aspects of the new antisemitism, which is not all that different from the old antisemitism, is that few, if any, of the new antisemites seem to recognize their hatred as hatred. Nor can they really explain its etiology; nor do they see its violent implications. They think they know where it comes from and where it leads, but they're just tweeting or resharing a handful of tired talking points and memes and cherry-picked anecdotes that make them believe they're onto something big, dangerous -- unbelievable. They are not, in fact, onto anything. They have been gripped by a fever and do not realize they are sick. This is the same sickness that has consumed countless sad sacks before them, those who were looking to fill the Pacific gulf in their tattered souls and punched up at the imaginary, red-faced, hook-nosed Satan, the Explainer of Everything. The mother of all conspiracy theories.

I’m outraged at antizionists repeating the racist and ignorant colonizer libel. I’m finishing a PhD in anthropology and have spent years researching indigeneity, settler-colonialism, and genocide. My dissertation examines Jewish indigeneity and peoplehood, grounded in long-term research with Indigenous communities in the Amazon. From that perspective, the idea that Jews are “white settlers” in their own ancestral homeland is not a serious scholarly claim. It is a bigoted libel that collapses complex histories of peoplehood, exile, and return into a crude ideological script.

I just received this interesting email.

@FoxxDoesThings The commodification of identity & communities for others to consume is a pervasive problem, not just for queer people. The parasocial relationships & consumerist expectation to get only your needs met, while assuming only your desires are important, another challenge within it.
