I congratulate President Donald Trump on his extraordinary efforts to pursue peace and for holding a very useful and productive telephone call earlier today, with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Pakistan. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir represented Pakistan in the telephone call and I greatly appreciate his tireless efforts during the entire process.The discussions provided a useful opportunity to exchange views on the current regional situation and how to move the ongoing peace efforts forward to bring lasting peace in the region. Rule #1 of asymmetric negotiation: The party with the most to lose domestically will always claim the biggest victory. While the IRGC brags about "forcing a surrender", the back-channel intelligence reality tells a different story. De-escalating a kinetic conflict always requires giving your adversary an idealogical off-ramp even if they use it to ppp champagne.

Now compare. Iranian state media said Iran keeps full control of Hormuz and gets billions in frozen assets released. Israeli media says Iran opens Hormuz freely and gets no money at all. Same deal. Two opposite readings, each leaked to the media that serves each government's home audience. This is exactly how both sides save face. The text is vague enough that everyone declares victory to their own people. The real terms live in the gap between the spin.
