🇺🇦🇷🇺 Ukraine just turned weather into a weapon. A weather balloon drifts 26 miles into Russian airspace, reaches 5 miles altitude, then releases an American Hornet kamikaze drone with 95% of its battery still intact and a strike range extended to roughly 75 miles. No radar signature, no engine noise, just the wind quietly doing all the work. The part that stings most for Russia: they can't copy it. The prevailing winds in the region blow toward Russia, not away from it. Ukraine's geographic position turns a basic meteorological fact into a permanent tactical advantage. Physics picked a side. 🇺🇦🇷🇺 Ukrainian drones torched Metrafrax Chemicals, a key supplier of drones, missile engines, and explosives for the Russian military. Calling it a “long-range sanction,” Zelensky praised the strike for reaching 1,700 km inside Russia

This will come as a massive blow to those of us reliant on Carla Denyer's backbench activities. I trust with God's good grace and the fortitude bestowed by Thor I might struggle through this, but for those struggling, may I suggest a pint of grow the fuck up.

@Sargon_of_Akkad @FFS_WhatNow Does this go towards the £180,050 limit for candidates at by-elections as it’s very clearly for the benefit of one candidate?

A viewer from Makerfield emailed this to me today. He received this letter from Hope Not Hate through his door, and they appear to be actively campaigning for Andy Burnham and the Labour Party.

@YorkshireWater contractors arrived today, just past nine, to mess up my road again. So far, I have been rammed by their van as I stood in front of it, had my camera stolen, been assaulted by one of the employees, had a tracked excavator driven at me and the digger boom swung at me - which would have hit me had not a police officer intervened and dragged the driver out of his cab - been sworn at, mocked and jeered, and my road deliberately damaged by the "team" (pictured) as they departed. Most of this was watched over by a Yorkshire Water (partner) supervisor, who took no action and failed to intervene. Apart from that, its been a perfectly normal day. What now @YWHelp ?

@tomhfh @93vintagejones A big part of the issue is the inconsistency from the press and commentators. I’ve seen Steve Bray mentioned elsewhere, he does far worse than the man in a van but has been given a free pass for years.

@93vintagejones That's a legitimate criticism of the 'you're not being very british' line. But it's not a legitimate criticism of Dan's belief that everyone should be more civil. Just because historically we have been rude, doesn't mean we have to like it.

I wrote this x.com/ollieparrot/st… on Monday when, after spending months on a DIY project to resurface our unadopted road (after it had been partially destroyed by Yorkshire Water excavations), we learnt that the company was to return to dig more holes in our newly-finished road, having ignored previous complaints and without giving guarantees of future standards of reinstatement. In the absence of any meaningful contact from YW, with the works scheduled for today, the residents decided to exercise a little-known Common Law Right to Abatement, which empowers direct action to mitigate (or prevent) a Tort (damage or harm). Thus, today we blocked the area with our cars, where work was to start - having served notice on the company that that was our intention. And, as the picture below shows, @YorkshireWater have bottled it. Direct action works if you prepare carefully. Don't let these unresponsive corporates roll over you. If you let them, they will take liberties, ignore the law and destroy your property. Stand up for your rights.

@ollieparrot @FUDdaily The rigged arbitration system is a fundamental issue. They help keep compensation payments low such that it’s more cost effective to pay the throttled compensation than invest in preventative maintenance. I have an idea for a bounty system on leaks to turn the tables.

Thanks. In my view, this is a result of a deliberately framed business model. This is how it works: The operation is fragmented into multiple sections, none of which know what the others are doing, with works sub-contracted through multiple layers. At the bottom end - where the work is actually done - compliance with standards is assumed in accordance with contract conditions, but there is no supervision or enforcement. The contractor, awarded the work on the cheapest bid basis, will always cut corners (and have to in order to make any profit). But, by fragmentating the system, @YorkshireWater (the client) has built an elaborate skein of plausible deniability. When people complain (most don't), they throw their hands up in horror (pure theatre) and say "we didn't know". Then comes the last bit of the jigsaw. The complaints system is so laborious, difficult to navigate, unresponsive and unrewarding, that most people who have complained give up in disgust. Only the persistent few see it through to the bitter end, whence YH makes a derisory offer of compensation, and forces the complainants into a rigged arbitration system if they don't accept the offers. This is corporate vandalism, structured and deliberate, all devised to cheat the customers and deprive them of their rights - all to maximise the bottom line.

It’s absolutely staggering that days after introducing legislation to ban North Sea oil and gas exploration, this malign government lifts Russian energy sanctions in order to import Vladimir Putin’s oil products and LNG.

@jackprandelli The Norwegian pension fund also invests in renewables in the UK, furthering our dependence on their oil whilst profiting from the subsidies paid by the Uk government

Norway and the UK drilled the same North Sea. 🇳🇴Norway got $2 trillion. 🇬🇧The UK got tax cuts. Same basin,Same era.... Completely different outcomes. Norway captured $30 per barrel in government revenue. The UK captured $11. That gap, compounded over 50 years of production, is the entire difference. Norway's model was simple: tax heavily (78% marginal rate), take direct equity stakes in fields via the SDFI, own part of Equinor, and put everything surplus into a fund invested abroad. The Government Pension Fund Global now holds over $2 trillion in assets. That's $390,000 per Norwegian citizen about 1.5% of all listed equities on earth. The fiscal rule: only spend the 3% annual real return. Never touch the principal. The UK started producing earlier, at lower prices, with a lower tax rate (40%) and no saving mechanism. North Sea revenues flowed straight into the general budget. Economists estimate the UK missed out on roughly £400 billion compared to a Norwegian style regime. The windfall largely financed tax cuts in the 1980s rather than a fund. Where things stand in 2026? Norway's petroleum sector will generate $63 bn in net cash flow this year alone feeding a fund already large enough to cover 10-15% of the national budget from returns alone. The UK is a net energy importer. Since 2021 it has paid countries like Norway more than £100 billion for gas. One country treated oil as a finite resource to convert into permanent financial wealth. The other treated it as income. image source:eia
