@gardlm Det er seriøst helt nedsnødd her nå. Threads er forbedret etter USA-valget. Just sayin.

I installed a box high up on a pole somewhere in the Mission. Inside is a crappy Android phone, set to Shazam constantly, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's solar powered, and the mic is pointed down at the street below walzr.com/bop-spotter

🚨So for those that missed the announcement on stream.🚨
I'm leaving behind my GTA adventures that I've been dedicated to for the last year and I'm returning to the FM Community/Scene full time.
Lots of ideas/plans. I guess #TheReturn was more real than I realised. #Scenes

@sambahreini @adrian_horning_ This might be the most pivotal, as it most likely means that scraping of publicly accessible data does not violate CFAA specifially. However, I guess you still have to deal with copyright issues. Redistribution is not automatically fair game?

@Scobleizer @MichaelMstehle @elonmusk @mcuban @jonstewart There might be loads of very human reasons for this - I mean, he’s probably also aware of his position, directly responsible for thousands of people, complicated family, at the end of the day still just a human being. I don’t envy him one bit. But if he doesn’t course-correct..?
English

@Scobleizer @MichaelMstehle @elonmusk There is no rational reason for Elon to let culture war get in the way of progress. I agree with @mcuban and @jonstewart that he might be the most influential person in the world. But he’s way off-road, aligning himself with an anti-science (and anti-decency) crowd. Irrationally.

Yes.
X is a business.
If it has fewer advertisers, because they are offended by @elonmusk or some other reason, then they will either need to cut expenses (already done, so now what can be cut?) or increase revenues some other way (subscribe to X Premium), or raise money from capital markets, or by getting Tesla to invest, which it should. My kids have all their money in Tesla and Maryam and me have 10% of our investments in Tesla too, which drives our money manager insane. He doesn't like his clients to have more than 5% in any one stock, but I digress.
I see the business here in Twitter, er, X, in a few years will come back. Even if no one returns who has left to one of those other social networks. X is infrastructure to link together the Tesla news network, and brings other benefits to both companies.
But there is a potential for a cash crunch to happen here, so moves might need to be made to survive until the future business evolves. And, yes, I know many Tesla investors see an investment in Twitter as folly, or worse, theft. (I disagree, which is why I'm writing this post).
The thing missing here is X still has massive value, especially to Tesla.
Why?
If I were Tesla and investing billions into X, first, why would the board and investors approve, and, second, what would Tesla get in return?
I keep telling you about AI that is doing amazing things with visuals and with audio.
X has all the necessary ingredients, hear me out. And, really, Irena and I should do an X Audio Space on this soon.
I've been on here 17 years and was the first to be followed by 1,000 people here (due to my then famous technology blog), and wrote a highly-reviewed book on social media and business before anyone else, back in 2005.
Tesla is about to completely change transportation. No one is even close to where Tesla is. Mercedes Benz gave me its first ride in its autonomous vehicle because I have been covering automotive innovation in Silicon Valley longer than anyone (I have the first Waymo self driving car video on YouTube, for instance).
When that happens, Tesla and Twitter will become a club.
A buying club. A buy everything club. (Remember, Elon promised you an "everything app.") What can you do on Wechat? Buy everything. So Elon is aiming at radically improving that human behavior.
One that will spin off cash from every purchase and make a new kind of business for X. And let the haters hate. Here in Silicon Valley Teslas are EVERYWHERE. I'm often surrounded by four or more on the freeway. That buying club is wealthy, and is very willing to buy new things, which is why they are amongst the first consumers in the world to buy an autonomous/electric car.
You will buy everything from Grok in the future. Which Twitter's, er, X's, data and users and X.AI's AI will provide to Tesla to make new kinds of interaction models for vehicles, to make the experience of being in one better. "Hey Grok, I like Garth Brooks, but you got any modern equivalent? Can you play it on the sound system?"
Even better, you will use Grok to know everything about everything. It is the everything app, and the only way I see that it gets there is with Twitter intact.
Why do I say that?
Because LLMs already help me buy literally everything and just in the past few weeks they have started giving us the news, too. Next year you'll see that go another level as new kinds of AI-driven glasses arrive (Meta, Google, Apple, Snap, Amazon, Microsoft, and others are planning theirs to arrive in next 18 months. Well, except for Apple, which is always late, I hear its internal schedule is next year for a better Vision Pro, and another 18 months after that the glasses, with a wire, and another 18 months after that for glasses without a wire. The next 54 months are going to see the world of technology flip from 2D to 3D, all driven by AI.
In Prague two weeks ago I took a photo of the logo on a menu and ChatGPT told me what I should eat on the menu.
And was accurate, according to the locals. @ASychov was across the table.
From a logo.
If it can do that, can't it help you with buying everything? Yes, in my experience. I bought tires, dishwashers, and much more using it, along with major help during travel.
And, soon, Tesla will feed its own data back into Twitter.
A Tesla goes across the Golden Gate Bridge every three seconds (I counted). So, if a news event, like a truck on fire, or a protest closes the bridge, who will have the best info about said news event? Tesla and Twitter together. By far.
No other company has AI computers driving across the Golden Gate Bridge at any volume. Only Tesla has that data.
In October Elon Musk will announce a new transportation EXPERIENCE.
He has been planning this for decades. It's why the dash in a Tesla is so simple looking (some buy German cars simply because a Mercedes or Porsche dash is more "luxurious.")
Inside the dash are vents that are computer controlled. No other car has a fleet on the road that has them.
They (joined with many other Tesla innovations) will make the experience of getting into a Tesla/X/X.AI vehicle far better than getting into a Waymo. Or a Zoox. Or any other vehicle.
I traveled America and saw how business owners treat Tesla owners. They want them inside. Some even hung signs in front of their businesses saying "Tesla owners welcome here."
Advertisers who don't advertise on X are idiotic. The Tesla community is still here. We have money to spend in your businesses.
The AI community is still here, too, many of whom are starting businesses that have gotten major funding. (I have the only lists of the entire community here, including 20,000+ people, and 5,400 companies).
But advertisers might stay away. What I predict might never show up. Especially if Tesla's board decides not to invest in Twitter.
If the worst happens, it is a business, and I know what happens to unprofitable businesses. They go away.
Far more important companies that X have.
That said, companies that go away, like Kodak, Nokia, or Borland, didn't have the value I see in Twitter and Tesla together. So I don't expect Twitter to go anywhere anytime soon.
