@sven_s8 @hireuter @INSPIRE_EU ... the validator can really annoy its users, true :). One current error that plagues most of our data sets is the winding order one. The validator has been developed far too late; it should have been complete and robust five years ago.

@hireuter @INSPIRE_EU and the data model is now so complex that even the experts can no longer see through it...
I have even experienced that not even the reference data sets run through the validator, but nobody really cares ;-)

@sven_s8 @hireuter @INSPIRE_EU The data model hasn't really changed in the past seven years. With all the implementation that has already happened, we can now actually quantify over- and underspecification. We're using this to create INSPIRE application models with much lower structural overhead, e.g. for END.

I am using all kinds of formats, including @flatgeobuf (thanks for your work btw!). I strongly prefer open, well-structured and documented formats. Otherwise, it always depends on the use case and architecture. #thereisnosilverbullet

@wetransformto @INSPIRE_EU @tr_xsdi @s_morrone @EpsilonItalia Don't be so harsh on the good old @shapefiIe. @GeoPackage1 is definitely also binary and @shapefiIe beats it in several use cases and is less complex. Of course, I have an even simple specification and beats both in all sensible use cases but I don't want to brag.

On day 4 of the @INSPIRE_EU conference, we spoke about how #GeoPackage, an #OpenStandard replacement for proprietary and binary formats such as #Shapefiles, can be used to support the #EuropeanNoiseDirective.

This analysis of #opendata shows availability of building data across Europe. Awesome to see that about 80% coverage has been reached, and that @INSPIRE_EU is the largest contributor to this, though there is still work to do to bring in attributive data:
