How have we allowed PA Sets without even having the vocal line taken out acceptable? To be on stage is such a blessing, such a deep privilege, and you’ve put zero effort into the set? I don’t even understand.

@WitchProphet ive find this line of thinking interesting: you are in proximity to a white person, so they will actually just erase your blackness completely and you cant apply/participate at all. lol

I’ll never forget when someone tried to tell me Heart Lake Records wouldn’t be considered Black owned because I run it with my wife who is not Black even though I am…. Like, are you dumb?

I’ve avoided watching most of these because I know deep down they’re going to annoy me because the representations are going to be ‘tainted’. However, I will endeavour to bear with them all because we’re going to cover this in the next edition of New Nationwide Project.

We been done dirty by the powers that be for decades,so we're hyper-critical,but now we at least have serious black British creatives bringing varied perspectives.I'm thankful for #Queenie. For #Dreamingwhilstblack. For #Boarders & I'm 100% thankful for @RealRapman & #Supacell

Thanks to the Toronto Music Office for being extremely supportive, and offering me an alternative gig, but appalling that this is how artists are treated at @TorontoPearson. Culture is being decimated in this city, in no small part because of these kinds of hostile environments.

Vent 🧵: I just had a pretty wild experience at @TorontoPearson — albeit not what you think. I was booked via the Toronto Music Office to DJ live in Terminal 1, but was sent home after being berated — including with misogynistic comments — by the sound tech assigned to my stage.

The minute @HeartLakeRecord gets a proper distribution partner, I’m approaching every independent artist I’ve ever wanted to sign.

as a site for critical learning in so many different subjects (at least while I was a student in Canada prior to university) and it made me think of what a future could look like if we had more meaningful engagement on a institutional/educational level.

I saw a TikTok about a teacher saying that her school, which on another other day would have been one where a majority of its students listen to Drake, turned into a Kendrick school given the lyrical spat between the two. She said students who normally wouldn’t read were doing

And by the way, since it’s cheaper to produce fast, synthetic music to drop on streaming every week to capitalize on the strengths of the model, watch how the model is preparing you for AI generated music that pays musicians nothing at all.
