“What could be said more severe than this apostolic sentence (Phil. 3:2): ‘Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.’ Consider the ‘concision,’ that is, the division of unity, which is the proper work of evil laborers. For just as dogs tear apart the flesh, so schismatics rend the body of Christ—which is the Church—so that one holds one part, another another part. Revelation 22:15: ‘Outside are the dogs.’ Outside the unity of the body of Christ, outside the Church, outside the Spirit of Christ, outside life, outside salvation. Jude 19: ‘These are they who separate themselves, animal men, having not the Spirit.’ Whoever separates himself from the primal unity is carnal, and fails to understand sufficiently that life cannot exist in a member torn away; and therefore he does not have the Spirit, who is given so that the bond of peace may be preserved.”

Pope Leo XIV is an Augustinian pope. The reason he loves 67 is because 6 is St. Augustine's favourite number and 7 signifies perfection in scripture.

Sertillanges: Study, of course, in Latin. Translations of the Summa often prove false to its thought; they are always inadequate. A man who would allow himself to be deterred by the slight effort needed to make his way about a language that an ordinary mind can master in two months would not deserve to have interest wasted on his mental training (1). We are speaking to earnest students: let them, desiring to get into the “wine-cellar,” take the trouble to find its key. (1) Some people, on reading this sentence, imagined that the author possessed a secret for teaching Latin in two months! He was not speaking of Latin, but of St. Thomas’ language, which is to classical Latin pretty much what the Montagne Ste-Geneviéve is to the Pic du Midi (the Montagne Ste-Genevieve is the rising ground on the south bank of the Seine, the old Paris University District [Tr, Note]). The Thomistic vocabulary is so limited, the turns of speech so often recur and are so free from the features that make Latin difficult, that really only laziness can hesitate when a treasure is to be had at the price of so slight an effort.

I need to set a milestone work to read in Latin at which point that would be indication that I achieved a good level at the language at which point I'll give ancient greek more effort, as I already started learning but not to the same zeal by which I did for Latin last months

Most wise Goudin roasting De***rtes 😂: “This, forsooth, is that otherwise so certain and skilled artificer who was not so fortunate as to discover even a good method for making a telescope, although he exerted all the strength of his genius toward it. Oh, how badly off we would be if the works of nature were produced according to the laws of Cartesian mechanics! How many would be born blind! How often would motion, lacking compass and rule, go astray while, in the dark womb of mothers, it fashions the eyes of living beings out of such unsuitable material—when Descartes, the inventor of these laws, even with all instruments at hand and in open light, could not succeed in fitting glass, a material both convenient and obedient to form, into any sufficiently excellent aid for seeing!”

After a French bishop had accused St. Thomas of denying the Immaculate Conception, our Angelic Doctor appeared to him in a dream and said that he had never rejected it such a sublime privilege to the Blessed Virgin. The Angelic Doctor defending Our Lady even after death.

@uabitodd47 Does the soul arrive immediately after conception, or does it come after a period of time during pregnancy? And if so, how long? Do you understand?

“Now original sin is both in the seed of the parents and in the flesh of the one generated in the womb before ensoulment, as in its necessary instrumental cause, from which it is to proceed; because the body or flesh before ensoulment is infected by sin and is disposed to infect the soul itself, at the first instant of its union with the flesh. Original sin is derived from origin insofar as through it human nature is communicated; and thus before ensoulment it is already ‘in becoming,’ just as human nature itself, which original sin properly regards, is also ‘in becoming’: which indeed occurs when the conceived offspring is animated (i.e., receives the soul). But before ensoulment, original sin is not in act, but only in the power of an instrumental cause; hence before the infusion of the soul, the conceived offspring is not capable of guilt, nor therefore subject or liable to actual guilt.” – Fr. Norberto del Prado, O.P.

@Thomisticae The obsession of some people with this is truly incomprehensible. One should simply conduct oneself as a normal Catholic has always done—the notion that everything is suddenly "different" now is nonsensical—& confess transgressions, should they unfortunately occur. Matter closed.

Original sin exists both in the seed of the parents and in the flesh of the one generated in the womb before animation as in its necessary instrumental cause, from which it ought to emanate because the flesh before animation is infected with sin, and is of such a nature as to infect the soul itself in the first instant of its union with the body. But original sin taken in this way is not in act, but in virtue of an instrumental cause and therefore the conceived offspring is not actually capable of guilt, and thus is not subject to it. Hence the Master of Sentences: “But to this it can be opposed in this way: In the very conception, where it is said that sin is transmitted, the flesh is propagated, but the soul is not yet formed according to nature, but only the figure of the body; as Moses clearly shows in Exodus 21, where he speaks concerning the striking of a pregnant woman: ‘If anyone strikes a woman who is pregnant and causes a miscarriage, if it is yet unformed, she shall be punished; but if it is formed, the soul shall be given for a soul.’ The ‘formed’ is understood as the proper animated soul, and ‘unformed’ as that which does not yet have a soul. Therefore, in the very conception, when the flesh is propagated, the soul is not yet infused. How then is sin transmitted there, when sin cannot exist where the soul is not? To this it can be answered: in that conception, sin is said to be transmitted not because original sin exists there, but because the flesh there contracts that from which the sin will be in the soul when it is infused.” (Sent. II, D. 31) ST. III, q. 14, a. 3, ad 1: “The flesh of the Virgin was conceived in original sin; and therefore it contracted these defects.” And again, ST. III, q. 31, a. 7: “But the body of the Blessed Virgin was entirely conceived in original sin, as was said above (q. 14, a. 3, ad 1 and q. 27, a. 2); and thus, insofar as it was in the parents, it was subject to sin.”
