UPDATE at 8:26 p.m.: The small fire in Fluke Hall has been extinguished. The battery that apparently caused the fire was removed from the building. No injuries were reported. The area is reopening.

UPDATE at 7:47 a.m. Thursday, May 14: A suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old UW student on Sunday is in custody, Seattle police announced this morning. Info: alert.uw.edu

10:40 p.m.: UWPD officers are investigating a death that occurred at Nordheim Court Apartments building 7 reported at about 10:20 p.m. The death is being investigated as a homicide. If you are at Nordheim, stay indoors and lock doors and windows. Info: alert.uw.edu

UPDATE: The Seattle Police Department has released photos of the suspect in Sunday night’s killing of a UW student in the Nordheim Court Building 7 laundry room.

UPDATE at 12:08 a.m.: Police have searched and secured the Nordheim Court area. Out of an abundance of caution, Nordheim Court residents are still being asked to remain inside. The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE at 11:38 p.m.: Police are searching for a man in connection with the investigation who was described as 5-foot-6 inches to 5-foot-7 inches tall, with a slim build, black hair, beard and wearing a button-up shirt under a dark blue vest and blue jeans. If seen, call 911.

UPDATE at 11:05 p.m.: Police continue to investigate at Nordheim Court. The area has been secured. Nordheim Court residents are asked to continue to remain indoors at this time.

UPDATE 9:57 a.m.: Firefighters have located the source of the gas leak at the Haggett Hall construction area. The gas has been turned off, and the smell is dissipating.

9:35 a.m. The Seattle Fire Department is investigating a report of a smell of natural gas near several buildings in the central area of campus. Follow directions from firefighters at the scene. Updates to follow. More info: alert.uw.edu

UPDATE at 10:23 a.m.: Seattle Fire Department tests indicate the the white powder was a desiccant, a drying agent often used in packaging. It is not harmful and is being removed. The building is reopening.

UPDATE at 9:54 a.m.: Seattle firefighters are continuing to respond. Avoid the area and follow the directions of firefighters at the scene.

9:36 a.m.: Seattle Fire is responding to a hazardous materials incident on the third floor of Denny Hall at the UW's Seattle campus. Avoid the area. More info at alert.uw.edu.

UPDATE at 10:53 a.m.: After a thorough investigation of the reported natural gas leak, Seattle Fire Department concluded that there was no hazardous material present and is preparing to depart the scene.

The UW will continue to coordinate with Seattle Fire Department, and any new information will be provided, if or when it becomes available, at alert.uw.edu.

.@SeattleFire units have responded to a reported smell of natural gas in the area of the Henry Art Gallery and Odegaard Undergraduate Library. Firefighters monitored the air in and around multiple buildings and did not detect a natural gas leak. They are reducing their response.
