@ChristyGreenLea @ramen_chmait Sadly there are many failed outcomes in laser ablation cases of TTTS, and I am told there have been failed cases of ablation in VP cases resulting in CS in any event.

@vasapraevia @ramen_chmait There is no reported fetal death from laser ablating vasa previa. All reported cases show successful elimination of VP. The point is that ablation is an option for Type 2 VP. This is important bc sadly non-surgical mngmt sometimes results in fetal deaths. #patientchoice

Yes, laser occlusion of Type II Vasa Previa can accomplish all the things that @ChristyGreenLea listed.
Another positive…mental health! Removal of the threat of fetal death that hangs over the pregnancy (although minimal with current practices) can be liberating. @vasapraevia

@vasapraevia @ramen_chmait There have been amazing outcomes… elimination of risk of fetal exsanguination, no need for early hospitalization, no automatic c-section…. In short, full term, vaginal births!

Easily diagnosed and when managed properly the outcomes are invariably good. You are right it is 2021 - time for those who can change things to do so …

@ramen_chmait Treatment of Type II VP requires diagnosis first. But yes there have been some good outcomes for those diagnosed antenatally with Type II VP through this procedure.

There is also the possibility of definitive laser treatment of Type II Vasa Previa in select #fetalsurgery centers.
The vasa previa in the first ultrasound picture was successfully laser occluded, resulting in cessation of blood flow through the vessel.

@jcollinsmd77 Hi! As a loss mum, I was and still am shocked that this isn’t taught in med school and even more shocked that one baby dying isn’t enough for the @RCObsGyn to want to change guidelines to save future babies. #eachbabycounts?!

@MFM_OBS We couldn’t agree more! Though of course the time for a rethink of the risk groups was in fact long ago! Thanks for your advocacy though on an issue which if adopted could reduce the stillbirth and neonatal death statistics by about 5-10% annually #vasapraevia

Prenatal diagnosis of vasa praevia is associated with a high rate of total and intact perinatal survival. Time to rethink screening the high-risk groups
