A single Meta data center in Georgia consumes 5,00,000 gallons per day. That's roughly 10% of the entire county's supply. One facility in Iowa consumed a billion gallons in 2024 alone.
Google alone consumed 6.1 billion gallons of water across its data centers in 2024.
India will be building 87 new ones in addition to 132 existing ones. Nearly 80% foreign funded. To make it worse, the government is offering up to 20 years of tax exemptions, 100% electricity duty exemption, and permanent establishment status for foreign companies leasing large capacities in India.

I travelled through Great Nicobar today. These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow. The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs. The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away. This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language. So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime. It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.

मुंबई-पुणे द्रुतगती मार्गाला पूर्णतः ‘ऍक्सेस कंट्रोल’ बनवणाऱ्या महत्त्वाकांक्षी प्रकल्प असलेल्या मिसिंग लिंक या प्रकल्पाची आज पाहणी केली. येत्या १ मे रोजी मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस यांच्याहस्ते या प्रकल्पाचे उद्घाटन होणार आहे.
मुंबई-पुणे ‘मिसिंग लिंक’ प्रकल्पाचे ९९ टक्के काम आता पूर्ण झाले असून, या प्रकल्पामुळे घाटातील वाहतूक कोंडी मोठ्या प्रमाणावर कमी होऊन प्रवास अधिक वेगवान आणि सुरक्षित होणार आहे. त्यामुळे नागरिकांची घाटातील वाहतूक कोंडीतून मुक्तता होऊन जलद दळणवळणामुळे अर्थव्यवस्थेलाही चालना मिळणार आहे.
१०.५ किलोमीटर लांबीच्या या प्रकल्पात दोन भव्य बोगदे, उंच व्हायाडक्ट आणि टायगर व्हॅलीवरील सुमारे १८२ मीटर उंच केबल-स्टेड पूल उभारण्यात आला आहे. सुमारे २३.७५ मीटर रुंद बोगदा हा जगातील सर्वात रुंद बोगद्यांपैकी एक मानला जातो. ७० किमी प्रतितास वेगाने वाहणारे वारे, मुसळधार पाऊस आणि कठीण भौगोलिक परिस्थितीत हा प्रकल्प यशस्वीरीत्या पूर्ण करण्यात आला आहे. लोणावळा तलावाच्या १८२ मीटर खालून हा रस्ता जाणार आहे, हा प्रकल्प पूर्ण करणे म्हणजे एक आव्हान होते, मात्र महाराष्ट्र राज्य रस्ते विकास महामंडळाने (MSRDC) हे मोठे आव्हान स्वीकारून प्रकल्प पूर्णत्वास नेल्याचे सांगत त्यांचे विशेष कौतुक केले.
मिसिंग लिंक प्रकल्प सुरू झाल्यानंतर टोलमध्ये कोणतीही वाढ होणार नाही. चारचाकी वाहने आणि बसेस यांना प्राधान्य देण्यात येणार असल्याचे यावेळी बोलताना स्पष्ट केले.
याप्रसंगी खासदार श्रीरंग बारणे, माजी नगरसेवक आबासाहेब बागुल, एमएसआरडीसीचे व्यवस्थापकीय संचालक अनिलकुमार गायकवाड तसेच एमएसआरडीसी, एफ्कॉन आणि नवयुग कंपनीचे सर्व प्रमुख अभियंते आणि कर्मचारी उपस्थित होते.

Ethanol has an energy density of about 26.8 MJ/kg, whereas Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) is around 43.2 MJ/kg. During take-off, an aircraft engine needs maximum thrust and energy output. If a fully loaded aircraft does not get enough thrust, the consequences can be catastrophic, like the Air India Express Flight 1344 crash.
An aircraft running on ethanol blends would need a much higher volume of fuel to achieve the same range. This directly reduces payload capacity and overall efficiency.
Ethanol is hygroscopic, means it absorbs moisture from the air. At cruising altitudes, where temperatures can fall below -50°C, this moisture can freeze into ice crystals. These can clog fuel lines and filters and potentially cause engine failure mid-air.
Aircraft fuel systems are built for hydrocarbons and use specialised seals and materials. Ethanol, being a solvent, can degrade these components, leading to leaks or debris entering precision engine systems.
If they are serious about testing this, let them first use it on Modi’s 8400 Cr aircrafts or Gadkari’s private jet for a couple of years, prove it is safe, and only then consider introducing it to the public.
This is not experimentation we can afford. If such reckless decisions go unchecked, the safety of air travel itself will be at risk.
