@UnalivedHorse @redhotnerd @ScottKacsmar He truly doesn’t get it. Reeves was a conservative coach. Nobody who watched at that time debates that. Reeves wouldn’t have debated that. Spot on about tassel as well. A lot of people now don’t realize that wade Phillips was the coach in 93&94 with tassel as OC

@redhotnerd @ScottKacsmar I’m aware of all that. But don’t forget that Elway wasn’t only running the Shanahan WC system. He also ran the Jim Fassel system and had instant success there too. And Reeves ran that much shotgun, but neglecting other key aspects was a bad scheme. Almost no run game in the 80’s

@ScottKacsmar They primarily used the shotgun heavily in one season. 1987. He won mvp that year

The Broncos may not have been WCO but they were one of the top shotgun teams in the 80s when that was not the norm in the NFL.

@ScottKacsmar Montana: West Coast Offense Marino: “Vertical” West Coast Offense Young: West Coast Offense Favre: West Coast Offense Elway: Pro-Style Offense Is it controversial to say that QBs should be used in a compatible system? When Elway got to use West Coast, he had his 5 best seasons.

@ScottKacsmar We all know neither Charles Barkley or Karl Malone were better than Jordan. They just couldn’t give Jordan mvp very year but he probably deserved it most of them

@sports_fluent The question this poses is: Is 4-6 in the finals a better accomplishment than being 4-0? Not everything has to be about Jordan and/or LeBron

My friend it’s easy to forget what that era was like. 1997 he was sixth in passing yards and overall those last six years he was overall #3. Changes the context quite a bit when we look through that window doesn’t it? 😎 Brett Favre — 23,576 yards Drew Bledsoe — 21,981 yards John Elway — 21,259 yards

Elway had a promising young Pro Bowl WR named Steve Watson from Day 1. But when you can only hit the target 52% of the time...

@ScottKacsmar You're full of crap! Either way, they were better than what Elway had.

It wasn't the same roster. The 1999 Broncos are a simple explanation: Elway - Retired Steve Atwater - Jets Terrell Davis - Season-ending injury in Week 4 Shannon Sharpe - Season-ending collarbone after 5 games The 1999 Broncos played 16 teams who finished 8-8 or better (NFL record) and did so with a green QB in Brian Griese. They lost 8 one-score games. By 2000, Griese had some experience, the schedule got easier, and they scored the 2nd-most points and won 11 games. If Elway lost TD and Sharpe by Week 5 in either 1997 or 98, that team might not make the playoffs, let alone go the distance after playing a schedule with no lightweights.
Adrian@papabuwuz

@ScottKacsmar So winning two in 97,98 weren’t because of him? The same roster without him started 0-4 in 99 and finished 6-10 when he retired. Explain that

@ScottKacsmar He was handcuffed ina. Very conservative offense his first decade. Look at his numbers his last 6 years (not at the peak of his prime skills). His stats could have been much more prolific in a qb friendly system the first 10 years. Thats why you can just look at stats

All of the 91 Lakers 92 Blazers 93 Suns 96 Sonics 97 Jazz 98 Jazz We’re capable of beating the Bulls. Not a single knowledgeable historian would argue those weren’t great teams that could have competed with any other title team ever at a high level. Only kids who have no real value being in the discussion will try to sell that to you. If you watched those series, the clear advantage that lessened those great teams ability to beat the Bulls was that peak Michael Jordan was on Chicago He was the overwhelming variable on winning effect That is unarguable and how any basketball mind worth a damn will see it. The Bulls WERE capable of beating Detroit in 90 and lost They weren’t capable of beating Detroit in 89 or 88. Neither MJ or the roster was ready They weren’t capable of beating the Celtics in 87 or 86. Neither MJ was ready as team player or leader and even so his roster was vastly weaker They weren’t capable of beating the Bucks in 85. MJ was way too young as a leader and the Bulls were a disaster roster construction. If you read what I’m saying it’s that MJ himself wasn’t good enough as a compete player to win those years and his team was not built to compete for a title those years regardless of his individual greatness. The roster and MJ would all continue to develop over the years. 1990 is the blemish to me. They had the team just not the system or resolve or experience to beat Detroit It’s a fact although that other than 90, every single season he had a real contender capable roster, he won

@24Jeremiah8 @LoveTheOrange1 This clown is saying the Lakers were the favorites in Vegas. Wrong bulls were two to one favorites -200 to -250. Magic had gotten swept in his previous finals in 89 by Detroit and they upset Portland just to get there and 91 bowls were prohibitive favorites.

@LoveTheOrange1 Because the bulls were the better overall team. That’s why they were favored to win all 6 series

@LoveTheOrange1 @VT802_Nicholas No because of HIV Magic retired in his late prime.I have a very unpopular view that it is entirely possible Magic could have 6 and MJ 5 if he wasn't forced to retire. Lakers were very capable of filling in players around him over next few years. But that make believe,MJ the GOAT
