@FondOfBeetles Turn up on the first day. There may not be a case to try (a few plead guilty in the 11th hour) and you may not get picked. The court clerks will give you detailed info about what expenses they will cover. The judge may dismiss you in the anticipation of your unavoidable lateness.

A question on jury service. I am due up in May. I will be using public transport. My commute will be 1h 50m each way to arrive before 9 am, and my trains are not always reliable (local, single line, if something goes wrong, it goes wrong). A taxi would cost about £25 each way. I've already deferred once. Do I have to suck it up?

Just took my mum for a coffee at @valeriecafe and had to endure a member of staff sitting at the next table scrolling through spoken videos on her phone, without headphones. Once again, selfish, entitled young people with no consideration for others around them. I don't want to hear your phone call, your music, your choice of tiktok/podcasts/IG. And yes, I did express my unhappiness to her.

I would do the shift on coffee with cream, a bit of 'emergency' cheese and they would arrive with a carrier bag of food purchased on their way to work, less than an hour after eating a full meal.

This raises an important point: how is it possible that in supposed first world countries some people cannot afford food that can healthily sustain them? Instead they are forced to purchase food that is not only deficient in nutrients but health damaging. And we act like this is normal.

Sorry. Just one more point.. There’s an exact equivalent to this. When a man knowingly & purposefully decides to walk behind a woman down a dark or deserted street. Quickens his footsteps when she does. Crosses the road when she does. Some men get excited & exhilarated by the power & thrill they receive when frightening women. The motivation is exactly the same as the one illustrated below. It’s all done for the same damn reason. Call it out.
