my hot take is mother doing 100% of nighttime care for baby is least disruptive for the baby, and if you get good at efficiently feeding your newborn and getting them back down quickly, everyone (mom, dad, and baby) gets better sleep.
more so than if mom and dad traded off on nights in pursuit of fairness.

@tigerbabas Tbf I’ve only heard this from childless friends, usually in response to finding out I do 100% of night feeds. Their gut instinct is “I would never do that” but I think (hope) when they actually have kids they will see the folly of their thinking

@kevinburch @tallsnail @astupple The closest thing I've read to this philosophy is "Hold on to Your Kids". I'm all for giving children autonomy and treating their world as valid, but I'm skeptical from the quick overview I just read. I'll put his book on my list nonetheless. I'm always happy to be proven wrong.

@nadiainthought I definitely agree, that's true for most narcs. I was thinking of my mom who's a narc and delulu. She's not fishing for a reaction when she throws shit like this out there, she's just talking to hear how right she is, and you dear reader are her loving audience.

it exposes narcs and they get more heated bc what they're looking for you is *a* reaction bc that's what supplies them. i actually think this is the best defense against getting pulled into conflict with narcs. but you're right that narcs won't rly change their behavior; they'll just move onto new supply that does react (speaking from personal experience)

my dentist is a dad of college kids that seems to operate on guilting and shaming people. he said "i tell people like you to do xyz and you don't listen" in this shaming tone. there was this catch-pause after like he was waiting for me to get dysregulated and scared, but in my head this year there was a calm "why the hell is he talking to me like i'm 12" and i just neutrally looked at him. he straight up changed how he was speaking to me after YEARS. don't return energy that's not respectful with any of your energy and just watch people change wordlessly
