From London we flew to NY to work with Gr 3-5 teachers. Our topic was adding fractions with like/unlike denominators. We cleared up confusion over fraction notation, what the whole is, & misconceptions about teaching fractions on a number line. Wish textbooks could get it right!

Great hour with NY teachers about streamlining instruction for Gr K-1. Which concrete & pictorial models are best? Which are downright confusing to kids? Is more better or is more just more? Do we need to change how we teach if direct virtual instruction is needed next year? Yes!

Session 3 was in NY where we tackled addition & subtraction within 100. If kids can't subtract w/in 20, can they subtract w/in 100? Nope. Key to regrouping is shifting tens – a grade 1 skill – NOT trading them!
