Losing a job is scary. But losing sleep, confidence, and peace because of a toxic job is scarier.

Let me say something most people are afraid to admit. Anyone pushing the idea that Rigathi Gachagua is “not an option” is either being naive, emotionally driven, or unknowingly making it easier for William Ruto to win again. You don’t defeat an incumbent by deleting players from the field. Politics is not about feelings. It’s about numbers. Rigathi Gachagua is an option. Edwin Sifuna is an option. Babu Owino is an option. Kalonzo Musyoka is an option. Fred Matiang'i is an option. That’s democracy, not gatekeeping. Let’s be honest for a second. You may not like Gachagua. That’s fine. But pretending he has no influence is political dishonesty. He commands real numbers in the Mount Kenya region and beyond, including a significant youth base. And elections are not won on X. They are won at the ballot. Another uncomfortable truth: No one owns the youth. Not politicians. Not activists. Not influencers. Mobilizing young people to register etcetra does NOT give you remote control over their votes. The same youth you think “belong” to your side can vote for Ruto, Gachagua, Sifuna, or anyone else. That is their right. That is democracy. This growing arrogance, where some people think they can decide who is “acceptable” for millions of Kenyans, is exactly how movements lose direction. If your strategy is to silence certain candidates instead of building a stronger national alternative, then you’re not fighting power; you’re narrowing your own path to defeat. To remove Ruto, you will need numbers, coalitions, and the strongest possible candidate. Not comfort. Not echo chambers. And if that candidate turns out to be Gachagua — so be it. Kenya belongs to voters. Not gatekeepers.
