In 2014, British swimmer Adam Walker was halfway through a brutal 16-mile open-water crossing of New Zealand’s Cook Strait when he glanced down.
Lurking beneath him was a great white shark.
Moments later, a pod of around 10 dolphins suddenly appeared, formed up around him like a security escort, and started guiding him forward.
They stayed with him for over an hour until the shark finally lost interest and disappeared.
Adam finished the swim in 8 hours 36 minutes. He was raising money for dolphin conservation at the time.
