Our heartfelt condolences go to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of the blue helmet soldiers who died in the line of duty while serving with @UNIFIL_. We also extend our sincere wishes for a swift and full recovery to the injured ones. We call on all parties to investigate the circumstances and uphold the crucial role of the UN mission in protecting civilians in Lebanon. The recent tragic incidents underscore the increasingly fragile security environment affecting not only civilians but also peacekeepers, journalists, and medical personnel, and generating waves of internally displaced people. Within the context of the ongoing and escalating conflict in the Middle East, it is essential that all parties uphold their obligations under International Humanitarian Law and ensure, at all times, the protection and safety of civilians and those serving in these critical roles. Romania reiterates its support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for the process of rebuilding a cohesive and prosperous society where the authority lies with the elected institutions of the state.

I lit a candle for the slain men, women and children of Bucha . They will never be forgotten. Massacres of civilians such as the one in Bucha should never have happened and should never happen again. When Ukraine bleeds, Europe bleeds. We, the EU Foreign Ministers, honoured today the memory of innocent lives lost four years ago and reaffirmed our commitment to justice, as every unpunished atrocity fuels future aggression. Bucha is a profound tragedy and today this community stands as a testimony to the unbreakable Ukrainian societal resilience against Russia’s illegal war.

Deeply concerned by reported sectarian attacks against Christians in Syria. The authorities need to follow through with the investigations in order to hold those responsible accountable and to prevent the recurrence of such events. The security and full rights of all religious and ethnic communities in Syria must be effectively ensured. The stability and prosperity of Syria are also at stake. The new path of Syria is highly dependent on the authorities’ capacity to ensure a safe place for all its citizens.

Astăzi am discutat cu Alfred Stern, președintele Consiliului de Supraveghere OMV Petrom, și cu Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom, despre proiectul Neptun Deep. Proiectul avansează conform graficului și va livra primele gaze naturale din Marea Neagră în 2027. Este o investiție de peste 4 miliarde de euro care va consolida securitatea energetică a României și va reduce dependența noastră de importuri. Neptun Deep aproape va dubla producția de gaze a României și va contribui semnificativ la creșterea independenței energetice a țării. Am discutat, desigur, și despre situația actuală a pieței energetice, chiar dacă întâlnirea fusese stabilită înainte de izbucnirea războiului din Iran. Reprezentanții OMV Petrom mi-au prezentat o informare detaliată despre evoluțiile pe termen scurt și mediu, precum și despre scenariile pe care le iau în calcul. Am abordat și tema prețurilor la combustibili și securitatea aprovizionării. Am convenit că va exista o colaborare și o cooperare strânsă cu Guvernul pentru ca România să depășească cu bine această nouă perioadă de presiune asupra prețurilor la energie. Închiderea strâmtorii Hormuz creează dificultăți majore pentru toate statele importatoare de petrol și combustibili. România are resurse proprii, însă acestea sunt insuficiente, motiv pentru care importăm aproximativ 80% din țițeiul necesar consumului intern. Soluțiile pe termen scurt și mediu sunt continuarea investițiilor majore aflate în derulare și menținerea unui dialog deschis și constructiv cu cei mai importanți actori din sectorul energetic. Vom continua să monitorizăm situația și să acționăm pentru a proteja cetățenii și economia.

Bilaterally, I assured that Romania is committed to a pragmatic, constructive, open and forward-looking relationship with Ukraine and that we count on a positive approach in matters related to the protection of the rights of the persons belonging to the Romanian minority in Ukraine, including their right to education in the mother tongue. Our joint statement on the co-production in Romania of defence materiel sets the premises for mutually beneficial projects that will strengthen our industries and create jobs. We also agreed to continue our work regarding cross-border projects and interconnectivity, keeping in mind both immediate needs and the longer-term perspective of the reconstruction phase and of EU integration. Romania will also continue to be a strong supporter for opening EU accession negotiations with both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova as swiftly as possible, on a merit-based approach.

President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, met today in Bucharest and decided to elevate our bilateral relationship to the level of a Strategic Partnership, the highest level of cooperation between two states. This is a crucial moment between two neighboring countries. In difficult times, we have strengthened our partnership and friendship, looking wisely at our shared history and at the responsibility to build trust between our peoples. Ukraine’s fight to protect its land, people, and future is a struggle that also safeguards Europe and us. We remain committed to supporting their efforts to restore peace and security in the region, as well as their integration into the European Union. The joint commitment to peace and prosperity in the region also has practical dimensions: •Framework arrangement for cooperation in the energy sector •Partnership for the development of the defense industry •Mutual respect for the culture and identity of our peoples As I announced with @andrii_sybiha during the first visit I took to Ukraine last year, we decided to work together so that the Romanian language has a dedicated day. After today’s meeting of the Presidents, we can now say that August 31 will officially be that day every year (Decree 235/2026).

Today, my meeting with the President of Romania, @NicusorDanRO, focused primarily on strengthening the energy and economic capacities of both our nations so that together we can do more for the national security of our states. We are working to expand cross-border energy cooperation – building two new power transmission lines with Romania. Equally important is our ability to pursue projects together in resource extraction on the Black Sea shelf. Today, we also discussed projects in the oil and gas sector that can support us now, including in light of the challenges related to the Middle East. We reviewed opportunities for transporting American LNG to Ukraine via Romania. We are also working to open new border crossing points – and this will be achieved already this summer. I thank Romania for its principled position throughout all these years of Russia’s full-scale war. Ukraine and Romania are natural strategic partners. The geography of our region, the security challenges we face, and the economic needs of our peoples all point to one conclusion: cooperation between us must only grow stronger.

I assured President Zelenskyy that Romania will continue to firmly support #Ukraine to defend itself, for as long as it is needed. We appreciate the impressive sacrifices made by Ukraine and the courage of each and every Ukrainian. We want Ukraine to prevail and the aggressor to pay for the immense damages caused and be held accountable for all the crimes committed. For Romania, it is important that a just and lasting peace is achieved. Strong security guarantees must prevent any possible future aggression and also take into account the security interests of the region, including those of the Republic of Moldova. The security of Romania and the European continent is closely linked to the security of Ukraine as Russia will remain the most significant threat in the #BlackSea region on the long term.

With today's strong vote in favour of a temporary deployment of additional US troops and capabilities in Romania, the Romanian Parliament has consolidated our position as a trusted ally and strategic partner of the United States. With this decision we strengthen our defensive capabilities. The solid RO-US military cooperation continues to develop in support of our collective defence. The measures approved by the Parliament will increase Romania's security, as well as the protection of allies and allied troops while also contributing to the security of our partners in the Eastern Mediterranean and Gulf regions.

Romania’s Parliament has approved a request from our U.S. partner to use 🇷🇴 bases for defensive operations in the Middle East. This decision reaffirms Romania’s role as a reliable ally of the 🇺🇸 and a committed member of NATO, while also contributing to our national security

I had a good and productive meeting today with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, focused on the shared responsibility Romania and Poland carry for strengthening the security of our continent and the future of the European project. As the geopolitical landscape shifts, our Strategic Partnership and bilateral cooperation serve as a vital pillar of European stability. We are committed to a more united and competitive Europe that prioritizes innovation and a future EU Budget focused on development, security and resilience. By fostering deep economic and defence industry cooperation between our nations, we are building a solid European defence base, able to deter threats in our neighbourhood and beyond. We have agreed to increase our defence cooperation within NATO, where a strong Eastern Flank remains the guarantee for the security of all European citizens. Romania and Poland also remain committed to support Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova on their path towards European integration. @donaldtusk
