The recent coral population crashes in the Caribbean have made one thing clear: we urgently need to focus on managing corals at the species level.
But how can we do this without adequate tools?
To plan coral restoration in a way that maximizes success, a team of researchers and conservationists is developing a science-based tool tailored to help practitioners manage populations of endangered corals, starting with the elkhorn coral in Belize.
This tool will incorporate a decade-long data set on coral species presence, survival, growth, bleaching events, and environmental factors to inform population management strategies and guide restoration efforts.
