Happy World Frog Day! Big respect for frogs. While they are often misunderstood, they are truly vital when it comes to ecosystem health, and as an important indicator species, they keep environments in check, and serve as a natural pest control.
Here at the Zoo, our Conservation team’s work to repopulate and re-establish frog species where they were once numerous, in concert with our many partners, has been a long road, but has made a difference.
On this day, we honor the mighty frog, many endangered around the world due to habitat loss and disease.
This weekend, come visit our conservation pop-up table from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside Amphibian Alley, to learn about frogs and the work to protect and save them.

“The greatest pain a person can endure is not hunger, poverty, or even death, but to love in a world that does not acknowledge their love — to give their heart completely and receive only emptiness and silence in return.
Within us, we carry a terrifying contradiction: we seek love, yet we fear it; we long for closeness, yet we flee from it; we adore the other, yet we doubt them. What absurdity is this, that makes us cling to those who leave and neglect those who stay?
I wonder: Is love a test of our strength or a revelation of our weakness? And is the loneliness we escape from nothing more than the natural consequence of every love that was never reciprocated?”
— Fyodor Dostoevsky

Someone said, “This is your life… and you’re letting people make you miserable in it?” And that really made me pause. Because when you think about it, this is the only life you get. The only timeline that belongs to you. And sometimes we hand over control of our mood, our peace, and our joy to people who aren’t even managing their own. It made me realize how much power we give away without noticing. At some point, you have to decide: if this is my life, why am I letting outside energy run it? That thought stuck with me.

I don’t think people realize how heavy it is to always feel like you don’t belong anywhere. Always the one left out, misunderstood, or just… there. Not hated, but not chosen either. That kind of rejection builds a wall you don’t even mean to have. It’s been like that my whole life. And yeah, I’ve learned to deal with it, but deep down it’s a wound that never fully heals.
I may not ever fit in or belong anywhere, & I’m learning to just be okay with that.
