Could be Israeli strikes to push the US / give Trump plausible deniability “I didn’t approve this” — serious escalation that contradicts Trump’s walking back. Iran will now strike energy infrastructure in response. Entirely predictable.

Seeing financial markets so directly managed and manipulated as a vector of war (while the President’s inner circle reaps short-term directional profits), is definitely one of the novelties of this moment.

FBI agents have to retire at 57, air traffic controllers at 56, and pilots at 65. But somehow demented 70 and 80 year olds running the country is totally fine. Make it make sense.

The leader of the opposition party in the Senate wants this war, which is something nobody wants to acknowledge but is actually insane. Imagine if during Bush II, Harry Reid was in favor of privatizing social security. This is that.
Sam Haselby@samhaselby

The war on Iran is a massive, systemic failure of the US political system. No one but the military contracts and Israel fanatics wants it. It's terrible for Americans, for the whole world. Where is the opposition party? Where are the checks and balances? Where is democracy?

So Trump says Iran is negotiating and US/Israel will not target power plans like 12 hours ago. Now… Israel attacks a power plant in Isfahan. Such snakes. Such terrible people.

You know things are bad when the president is treating the stockmarket as a pump and dump shitcoin scheme. Crime is legal. Everyone for themselves.

Trump’s lackeys at SEC are preventing agency from investigating insider trading and fraud cases so the head of enforcement— a former military judge, resigned. Gee, I wonder why.

Different context but reminder that both Polymarket and Kalshi hired Don Jr to be a “strategic advisor” and both have in-house trading desks. Now ask yourself why they did this: is it because they value his brilliant geopolitical mind or because he provides inside information?

Traders made bets worth half a billion dollars in the oil market about 15 minutes before Donald Trump’s post touting “productive” talks with Iran sent the price of crude tumbling and ignited volatility in other assets. ft.com/content/1171d6…

From Politico. The US says its plan is to keep assassinating Iranian leaders until a Delcy Rodriguez-style figure emerges who will do what they want. Article says the main thing is a future leader gives the US first dibs on oil rights

Israel's goal is to destroy Iran's industrial base and set the country back decades to ensure that Tehran cannot pose a challenge to Israel's hegemonic designs for years to come - regardless of the cost to the global economy, regional stability, or Trump's presidency...

The US government collected over $1 billion in immigration fees then refused to process the applications. No denials. No refunds. Just silence. This is the largest fee fraud in the history of the American immigration system. Here's what's happening. 🧵

You have to stop assuming he’s trying to do a good job. The current administration is not interested in governing. They are only worried about extracting as much wealth as possible and insulating themselves from the consequences
Ryan@BanUnsweetTea

Genuinely seems Trumps presidency is completely falling apart. Basic government services aren’t getting executed. He’s stuck in a quagmire in the Middle East. Job growth is negative and inflation is accelerating. Gas is 4-5 dollars a gallon. What a mess

so you’re telling me 5 min before trump announced a ceasefire, someone in his inner circle loaded up on a perfectly-timed trade (long stocks, short oil), walked away with billions, and then we the plebs are told $8 gas is just “the price of freedom” so just get less starbucks ???
unusual_whales@unusual_whales

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.
