I feel qualified to chime in here.
Being middle class is a relatively new thing for most of the developing world. A table full of food feels luxurious to the Thai, the Turk, the Arab, the Indian, in a way westerners don’t quite grasp. Hunger is too far distant from our psyche.
I look at a table like this and I see gluttony and waste. The Turk feels content with the feast laid out before him. The table laden with food represents success to him in the same way westerners view a well manicured lawn or a decent wine collection. They are still at the safety stage of industrialization. Westerners want self-actualization.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they will not be releasing further descriptions of any potential suspects in the Ann Widdecombe case, so as to not prematurely compromise "ongoing enquiries".
Strange how when they thought it was a “White Male”, no problem with releasing it!

The police need to release the CCTV from Wednesday lunchtime/afternoon so the public can help them identify her alleged killer.

This passage from Book V of Aristotle's Politics is justly famous, but it's worth remembering that he was talking about the tyrant's bodyguard. Of course he surrounds himself with foreigners, because they're less likely to murder him, so long as they're well paid.
What Aristotle couldn't have conceived of, nor any other Greek, was that a tyrant could replace the entire population wholesale to maintain his rule. Even when the Greeks extirpated entire communities, as the Athenians did to the Melians, they resettled them with other Greeks--not with foreigners from the Punjab.
