"As with previous major sporting events, organisers run thank-you initiatives to show their appreciation for volunteers and staff. "We are delighted and proud to be able to do the same, by offering our wonderful volunteers the opportunity to watch a FIFA World Cup match today in style."

During the Qatar vs. Switzerland match in the San Francisco Bay Area, a brief technical outage prevented the onside animation graphic from being generated ahead of the penalty awarded to Switzerland in the 14th minute. The issue was quickly resolved. The workflow of the VAR was not affected by this issue and followed the normal procedure in checking the on-field decision. The lines used by the VAR to check the position of the relevant players did not show the attacking player to be in an offside position in either of the two situations immediately before the penalty decision.

"We keep some tickets back for some last-minute sales, of course, but every match is sold out" - Gianni Infantino, February 2026. Maybe they're all at the concourses?

Official attendance figures reflect the number of tickets scanned and spectators present within the stadium footprint, rather than visual assessments of seating occupancy at any given moment during the match. FIFA works closely with stadium authorities and ticketing teams to ensure all published figures are based on verified operational data. Please note that, during last night’s match in Guadalajara, several ticketed fans could be seen standing in concourses rather than staying in their assigned seats throughout the match.

“Until today, we have sold over six million tickets,” FIFA president Gianni Infantino said on Wednesday. “The demand has been unprecedented, not by a little bit, but by a factor of 10 or more.” Well, if that was the case, nobody told Guadalajara. There were large sections of empty seats at the Akron Stadium as South Korea fought back from behind to beat Czech Republic in the second game of the World Cup. ✍️ @jwhitey98 FREE TO READ: bit.ly/4xtPuVO
