Mormons and Catholics believe in two different Gods. Both call God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but each means a totally different thing from the other. In Catholicism, God is three persons in one divine nature. God is immaterial and absolutely simple. In Mormonism, the three persons are distinct in substance and essence. They are made of material and exist in a material world. In Catholicism, God created everything ex nihilo (from nothing). He brings everything into existence, and all existence is contingent on him. God is the uncaused cause—the ultimate explanation of all things. In Mormonism, God does not bring all things into existence from nothing. Instead, he organizes eternally existing matter. This matter has existed forever, and all things, including god, are made by it. This should already suffice to show that Mormons worship an altogether different "god" from Christians, so Mormonism is not a type or denomination of Christianity. But setting aside that debate for the moment, there is a more fundamental question: is the Mormon view a sufficient explanation for why anything exists at all? It is not. Eternal matter cannot explain its own reason for existence, let alone existence itself. Only a theology where God is the very act of being can explain reality fully. Why? Continue reading below 👇

Trent Horn has to be one of my all time favorite apologists. He is equal parts deft and winsome in his apologetics. I come away from each video feeling genuinely encouraged. Never understood the hate lobbed at the Catholic Answers guys. youtube.com/watch?v=XnzOwa…

Declining corporate support for Pride events may signal a political shift, but conservatives should be cautious about mistaking a tactical retreat for a lasting cultural transformation. ✍️ David Hahn thecatholicherald.com/article/prides…

I watched the video of the couple revealing the prenatal test results. Hard viewing. My main takeaway is that the husband was weak. He should have comforted his wife, but he made her more desperate. A little more courage from him, a sense of safety and confidence to share with her, “It’s ok babe, we got this”, might change the frame, leading to different conversations, just as much a matter of life and death but far short of debates about “the ethics of abortion”. The culture of death is downstream of “men without chests”.

@JoshHochschild Someone once showed me the best way to obscure writing wasn't to scribble over it, but to write new words over top. It would be very sad if AI hallucinations alienate the everyman from the wisdom of Aquinas, especially as he is being rediscovered by so many.

Heard about a recently published article, lets say generally in the area of Thomism, filled with hallucinated quotations. Easy to identify for someone who knew the scholarly territory. The journal editor, when offered clear documentation and some standard options for correcting the scholarly record, refused to address it. I expect something will be published about this eventually, but it is bad enough that "scholars" are polluting the discourse with AI slop. Fabricated quotations in scholarship about the history of ideas are especially insidious. It's somewhat disturbing that the problem wasn't caught during peer review. But since the corrupt article was published, it is much more scandalous that an editor wouldn't take easy and reasonable steps to safeguard the integrity of a journal.

@CCanuck4 The fascinating part of this critique lies in the power of God to create life. Hebrews 11 makes a pretty striaght forward case that Abraham had Faith God would raise his only beloved son from the dead - something all too true.

The binding of Isaac is almost like a reverse breakfast question where low IQ people get obsessed over hypotheticals ("BUT WHAT IF ABRAHAM DID IT?!") instead of just reading the story as it is.

A Man for All Seasons is an incredible movie. It has all the quip and sharpness of a classic like His Girl Friday while stirring the heart like Gladiator. The scene where he says goodbye to his wife is brutally real. May the good Lord Catholicize England!

"Pope Benedict XVI once said that the Holy Spirit was, in some ways, the neglected Person of the Most Blessed Trinity. His work is almost always invisible – moving the heart and conforming the sons of God to the image of the Son. Yet some of this neglect is not merely an accident of the Holy Spirit’s hidden activity. It is partly a failure of memory." ✍️ @hahnlander Article | ow.ly/bq8350Z5Bnf

“But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.” Matthew 15:9 I see “commandments of men” throughout Christendom today, the exact thing Jesus explicitly fought against.

For those anticipating Pope Leo's AI encyclical, here's what it likely will say: Artificial intelligence is an powerful technology that can be used for human flourishing, but it has dangers we must guard against, particularly the blurring the distinction between man and machine.
