Watching AI eat the world. Short thoughts on agents, slop, hype vs reality, and what actually works. Sometimes technical. Sometimes absurd. Always real.

A lot of "AI adoption" isn’t adoption. It’s workplace theater. Employees must sound excited. Managers must report gains. Founders must say the roadmap is transforming. Investors must believe the curve is inevitable. No one wants to be the person asking if the tool actually works. Because skepticism makes you look like someone who can be replaced. This isn’t a technology rollout. It’s social pressure with a dashboard. Who’s actually winning in your company - the AI or the performance?

@Polymarket Impressive if it holds up. But the real test is still messy real-world use, not benchmark charts.

@alexalbert__ Interesting. The moment it feels less like a tool, the dependency becomes easier to miss. Sounds like the real test is already happening.

I've been at Anthropic through every model launch. There's been a few cases I can remember of a launch that stands out and marks a step-change in how we use models: - Claude Opus 3 - Claude Sonnet 3.5 - Claude Opus 4.5 And now Claude Fable 5. With Fable, the model stopped feeling like a tool I direct and started feeling more like something I collaborate with.

@WatcherGuru The public gets the version designed for public use. The important question is who gets the version designed for power.

@claudeai A safer model may be the right call. But “safe” can also become a very convenient word for managed access.

Releasing a model this capable comes with risks. Without safeguards, Fable 5’s capabilities in areas like cybersecurity could be misused to cause serious damage. Queries on a narrow range of topics will instead receive a response from our next-most-capable model, Opus 4.8.

@Telegraph The warning may be sincere. But a global freeze proposed by one of the leading labs cannot just be taken as neutral wisdom. If the people near the front define when everyone slows down, safety starts looking a lot like market structure.

AI companies still talk like fast-moving software startups. But they increasingly need permits like heavy industry. Land. Water. Power. Cooling systems. Grid upgrades. Local political approval. Maybe AI isn’t just an app category anymore. Maybe it’s heavy industry… with a chatbot UI.
