Today is a shameful day for this goverment. Labour's disastrous Family Farm Tax has now officially come into effect. The next Conservative government will scrap it.

Our places of worship play a vital role in our local communities, but many need vital repair and maintenance work. The Listed Places of Worship scheme helped subsidise the cost of this work. Labour cut this funding. The next Conservative government will fully restore it. @KemiBadenoch outlines her reasons for this decision in an article in the Spectator. spectator.com/article/how-to…

Britain is a Christian country. The Conservative Party will always celebrate our Christian heritage with deeds, not just words. This Easter, we want to ensure local churches are properly maintained and repaired so we’re announcing a plan to restore funding for the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme which the government has recently placed caps on. Churches matter. They aren’t just important places of worship, in many towns and villages they are the centre of the community and the pride of local people, often steeped in hundreds of years of history. It is critical we maintain them properly, because when they’re gone, this history and heritage could be lost forever. @Conservatives believe we have a responsibility to protect our churches and make sure they endure for future generations.  What are we for if not to conserve the very best of our country and our society for those yet to come? Conservatives will protect our heritage and build a stronger country.

Fuel prices have soared to £2 per litre at pumps across Britain. Something has to change. The Conservatives would axe Labour’s Fuel Tax rise, drill in the North Sea, and Get Britain Working Again 🇬🇧

Looks like Labour are U-turning on Jackdaw FINALLY. After weeks of pressure from us, Miliband is backing down. That’s what happens when @Conservatives force Labour to act. But one licence isn’t enough. We should be drilling, cutting bills and securing our own energy. Scrap the windfall tax, axe VAT on energy and ditch the carbon tax. Our Cheap Power Plan would save families £200. Only Conservatives have a plan to get Britain working again.

Britain imports oil and gas from Norway - drilled from the same seabed we refuse to drill. Since the election Miliband has insisted there’s no value in North Sea drilling. This is a humiliating u-turn - and one forced by Kemi and Claire Coutinho.

The Carbon Tax has made doing business in Britain much, much harder than it needs to be. Under @KemiBadenoch, that ends.

Let’s see who agrees with me on drilling in the North Sea: Rachel Reeves ✅ The GMB Union ✅ RenewableUK ✅ Tony Blair ✅ Octopus Energy ✅ Great British Energy ✅ But not the Energy Secretary Ed Miliband ❌ Keir Starmer…? I sense a U-turn (unless Ed Miliband is really running the govt!)
Andrew Pierce@toryboypierce

Now chancellor @RachelReevesMP agrees drilling in North Sea would generate tax revenue. So sack @Ed_Miliband the Cabinet eco fanatic & get on with it

Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho·
Your energy spokesperson backed higher taxes on oil and gas that you now reject. You resigned from your party over a burqa ban you now say you support. You reported Rupert Lowe to the police for hurty words and say you care about free speech. In the nine months I had in Government I started a reset on Net Zero, pushed back on costs to consumers and on legislation crushing businesses, legislated to protect North Sea licenses, signed off Rosebank and more gas power plants, started the largest expansion of nuclear power in generations and a true costing of renewables. I’ve worked to change my party’s position further which is why I backed Kemi because I knew she would have the courage of her convictions to do so as well. As ‘head of policy’ you spend most of your time sounding like someone whose head was flushed down a toilet too many times at school - all fragile ego without bothering to learn that education policy is devolved or that Grangemouth is not in Wales. Perhaps get off X and into the detail of your brief.

The closure of Grangemouth refinery was announced in 2023 when Claire Coutinho was the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. She killed it and returns to the scene of the crime to film. Depraved.

Energy is growth. But our energy costs are some of the highest in the developed world. We have to cut the cost of power and only the @Conservatives have a plan to do so. The British people are being squeezed, and our industries are being held back. This spineless Labour Government refuses to take the tough decisions needed to grow our economy. The Conservatives will scrap the carbon tax, paid for by getting Britain drilling. We will back British industry, level the playing field with foreign imports, and bring jobs and investment back to the UK. This will bring more jobs and growth to the economy, and cut costs for business. We believe in enterprise, in competitiveness, and in putting our national interest first. Only the Conservatives have a plan to get Britain working again: cut spending, cut tax and back business.
