Pedro González, uno de los activistas que lideró la iniciativa, relató que lograron reunir carne de MIPYME, frutas y maíz con el esfuerzo de la comunidad. Sin embargo, al intentar alimentar a los animales, fueron interceptados por la administración. "Lo que vimos fue doloroso: animales desnutridos, en condiciones deplorables, con agua sucia, espacios en mal estado". La respuesta de los directivos fue de total indiferencia: "Nos dijo que 'los animales tienen una dieta que no pasan hambre' y aquí es donde me pregunto: ¿Dónde está esa dieta cuando los animales se están muriendo de hambre?" El director del centro incluso llamó a la policía para detener la acción de los ciudadanos. "Está prohibido alimentar a los animales pero no parece estar prohibido que pasen hambre... las reglas se usan más para impedir que para proteger", sentenció el activista en su mensaje. A pesar de que el zoológico exigió que la comida fuera entregada como "donación" para que ellos la administraran, los ciudadanos desconfían del destino final de los recursos.
