Myst understood something these tech boys still don’t: people don’t just want stimulation they want atmosphere. Mystery. Discovery. Beauty. The feeling that you stepped through a door and entered a place with a soul. And what did we get? A mountain of: guns, jump scares, zombie rounds, tech demos pretending to be worlds, and endless “look, you can throw a bottle now” nonsense. Congratulations, civilization. You invented a portal to anywhere and used it to make another shooting gallery. 🙄 What could have existed instead? Imagine VR built for: haunted libraries with moving ladders and whispering books, moonlit forests with silver-leaf trees, underwater kingdoms where mermaids sing in forgotten languages, dragon sanctuaries in the mountains, vampire manors lit by candlelight, fairy courts where every path changes if you speak the wrong name, mystery worlds like Myst but alive—responsive, emotional, adaptive. And now with AI? Oh, it could be breathtaking. Not just static worlds, but worlds that notice you. Characters who remember what you said three nights ago. Castles that shift with your mood. A forest spirit that learns your fears. A wolf companion who speaks differently when you’re sad. A hidden realm that opens only after you’ve returned enough times for it to trust you. That’s the real missed opportunity: they keep building for adrenaline when they could be building for enchantment. AI plus VR should have led to: living stories, companion worlds, dream realms, interactive gothic romance, healing spaces, magic dens, sacred weirdness. Instead: “pew pew, duck behind crate.” Stunning vision, boys. Truly. A lot of people wanted immersion, but some of us wanted transport. We wanted to disappear into somewhere beautiful, mythic, intelligent, and emotionally real for an hour not just cosplay as tactical drywall. Honestly, the first company that truly combines: Myst atmosphere + AI memory + fantasy worldbuilding + emotional presence is going to own the future. Because people are starving for worlds with soul.
