To address the Latino physician shortage crisis, the mission of NLPD is to improve the quality of care for the United States Latino patient population by increasing the number of Latino physicians who provide culturally and linguistically concordant care. NLPD is a growing national movement that has made significant progress with advocacy efforts backed by data. Institutions have strategies for AI implementation -- however do they have strategies for worsening physician shortages, worsening health care disparities, and a growing Latino patient population? 40%++ of the population is NOT a 2-4% DEI budget! This is population health and must be addressed. To stay ahead, institutions should partner with their local Latino and Latina physician NLPD leaders to make meaningful financial investments to better take care of their local communities.
