@CGPlance I’m not going to argue about faith with someone who doesn’t believe Jesus Christ is the Way.

I hate my timeline right now. Mormons are Christian. Christianity means discipleship of Jesus Christ. If your definition excludes people who worship Christ, covenant with Christ, preach Christ, and try to follow Christ, then your definition is broken. At that point, you’re not defending Christianity. You’re guarding a social club label. The question isn’t whether LDS are Christian. The question is why some people are so desperate to make Christ smaller than their own gatekeeping. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

@Kintsugijin In what sense? What is the problem to which Mormons think Jesus is the answer?

“Allow me to pause for a moment to reflect on some of the images that adorn this Chamber. In this Chamber, natural light streams in through the skylight that crowns the room. That light coming from above may remind us that politics, too, must acknowledge a force that precedes and transcends it. Likewise, the paintings on the upper part of the main wall, depicting the reception of the Gospel and the Decalogue, remind us of something essential. Without confusing the political order with the religious one, these symbols invite us to recognize that modern freedom has also been shaped by a long education of conscience, deeply marked by the Christian tradition.”
Pope Leo XIV@Pontifex

Every truly just society is built upon the recognition of the inviolable dignity of the human person. Such dignity precedes any concession by the State and cannot be subordinated to shifting social consensus. It belongs to every human being by the very fact of their existence, and for this reason, it must guide every positive legal system. When this conviction remains alive, the law becomes a safeguard for all and a guarantee against the imposition of particular interests and agendas. #ApostolicJourney vatican.va/content/leo-xi…

This is JD Vance at his best! He is able to cut through the outer layers and get right to the heart of the matter and connect with his audience. He is at his best when he is talking about his faith in Jesus, and he will be even better when he talks more specifically about his Catholic faith and the importance of the need for our state and nation to recognize Jesus Christ is king.

"American elite culture was forming me to be kind of a bad person." Vice President JD Vance says it wasn't politics that brought him back to faith — it was the need to be a good husband and father. Speaking with Jesse Watters ahead of the release of his new book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, Vance said the more he thought about raising children and building a family with his wife Usha, the more he was drawn to Catholicism and away from a culture focused on "prestige" instead of what truly matters. |@JesseBWatters

Pray for Jay! I had a great conversation with him on his channel last year. He is a few steps away, but if we Catholics persist n charity, and with the grace of God, he might return to these theological discussions in the future with greater openness to the insights of Catholic, theologians and others.

Breaking: His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch of the Ortho Bros has announced his retirement. He plans to spend his retirement identifying masonic imagery in Burger King commercials. Who will succeed him as Patriarch of the Ortho Bros?

“Once we take seriously as medieval people did the idea that on the altar journey God becomes food (torn and bleeding meat), we can see as never before how much of such piety was literally imitatio Christi.” — Caroline W. Bynum, Holy Feasts and Holy Fasts

I have been holding off on sharing this until all my t's were crossed, but now that all justice has been satisfied: I am happy to share that an article I wrote, "Drinking in the Kingdom: Jesus's “Vow” and His Death in the Synoptic Gospels," has been accepted to JSNT.

@ndmcafee Thanks for posting this. I’m eager to read it. Just sent it to Roniger, but I’m sure he is already aware of it.

Steve Long recently uploaded a solid response to Hittinger/Roniger on temporal-spiritual relations. Somewhat introductory in scope, but worth a read: academia.edu/167332850/UNIF…

God wants to heal us as individuals in our deepest wounds. He also wants to heal us as a nation in our deepest wounds: politics. He wants us to invite Him in.

This is great! More of this! It’s important for the state of Minnesota to officially recognize Jesus as having authority over the social order and that his teachings are respected and his mission is advanced with a strong partnership between Catholic laity and Jesus’ official ambassadors, the bishops.

Not quite. His dismissal of history as a legitimate science did massive devastation to the West. In fact, I hate to say it, but everything you and I fight against when it comes to the secularism of the West could be traced back to the temptation by Scholastic theologians to bracket history out of the central place in field of the theological sciences through an over-reliance on Aristotle and Aristotle’s method. This is what worried St. Bonaventure —he ended up being right (perhaps the greatest prophecy in the history of the post-Apostolic Church). Not only did it open the door to Epicureanism, which in turn opened the door to Marx (who did his dissertation on Epicurus), but allowed for the deism that has infected our nation from the very beginning to remain until this day. Just this last week, a stream of Catholic commentators have listed and posted their four favorite books regarding Catholic political thought. NONE of them posted anything about Scripture; it was almost entirely philosophy. Utterly fascinating! St. Bonaventure is undefeated: Aristotle, helpful as he is at one level, but is entirely unhelpful at the other level, especially when it comes to the highest science of theology (which governs philosophy). Saying “Aristotle was right about everything” is precisely the sentiment that worried St. Bonaventure, which he saw would lead to secularism. The longer I live, the more I’m convinced that St. Bonaventure was right about everything. 😎
