Headline is clickbait because it's just about the Builder's Remedy taking effect in the absence of an approved Housing Element, but otherwise this is good and kind of crazy news/happenings in housing policy. darrellowens.substack.com/p/ca-cities-to…

@California_HCD don't play. Despite our best efforts to strengthen Berkeley's Housing Element, HCD says we have more work to do 👇🏽 Specifically, HCD tells Berkeley to fix our sites inventory & do more to affirmatively further fair housing. Gotta keep pushing!

"the price of housing should increase faster than inflation over time" is catastrophically bad public policy. in fact, an interesting framework for setting public policy would be "make everything get less expensive over time".

the meta here is about: - governance of social institutions - mediating social fabric through a website - ownership/control incentives of the corporation that owns this website - volatile (re)construction of our social reality via the above

the days of usenet, irc, the web...even email (w PGP)...were amazing. centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet. I realize I'm partially to blame, and regret it.

... folk in SF are prob. infected. (FYI, this % @UCSF was 0.4% [1-in-250] 1 mth ago. Remember, this means that if you go into an indoor space w/ 15 people, it’s almost certain that someone is breathing out live virus. Can’t think of better argument for N95 or equivalent.(9/20)

You can see in this chart the result, a plunge in generation just as demand begins to soar. My crudely drawn red lawns represent the delta between generation and demand. At 7 a.m. Monday morning the difference was about 20GW.

You have probably heard many observers mention that this is a systemic failure rather than a breakdown of an individual technology like wind or gas. That's easier to see visually. Note how all power generation falls of a cliff around midnight on Monday morning.
