@jeremykauffman My favorite Book of Mormon scripture is when God mocks the modern Christians. 2 Nephi 29:3-4

@NathanShumate I think few people think about it. It’s not a teaching with any day to day usefulness.

A question for my fellow Latter-day Saints: Obviously, the King Follet sermon gets brought up a lot more online than in meatspace discussions, as anti-Mormons love to use it as a stick to beat us with. However, I see a lot more members denying, or at least expressing less confidence in, associated ideas such as "infinite regression" than I would have expected. What is your sense of the actual attitudes across the Church? Are members as a whole less accepting of infinite regression etc. than they once were, or is LDX a skewed sample? (Note: I'm not asking what YOU believe. I'm asking what your sense is of what OTHER people believe.)

@rileyadamvoth The simple answer to these people is that to achieve his carnal desires he took the hardest path to get them. And that is their most lrational explanation. No, he could have easily lived in a big city womanizing without mobs hounding him and lived a drama free life of ease.

Nah there's nothing at all complicated about Mormonism. A horny man who was a known fraudster wanted to screw more girls and other men's wives and there's been plenty more of these horny men who liked sex, power and money ever since to keep up the charade of "it's complicated" and continually adapt the cults beliefs to the times ever since. Classic cult tale as old as time.

Creedal Christians got to understand how unappealing their version of the afterlife seems to someone who grew up with the Restored Gospel. Your marriages and relationships are all annulled so you can worship at the feet of some formless, genderless other that exists outside of time and space. And I guess you just bask in his ambience for eternity. No progression. No growth. And if you don't worship him just right in this life, he sends you to burn in Hell forever! Me, my children, my sweet old grandma--we're all going to suffer eternal torment because we worshiped the "wrong Jesus" in this short life. It just sounds so unlike the loving Father that we know and worship. His plan for us, as we understand it, balances love and justice perfectly. We will ALL get the same opportunity to accept or reject His gospel. Not Mormonism. Not Catholicism, Protestantism--HIS gospel. (I'm sure this is full of mischaracterizations, but they do that shiz to us constantly, so idc.)

@PoplarKulak @dmh1125 It’s not presumptive. How is it presumptive that God revealed a clearer description of the nature of the afterlife? We presume nothing. We believe on His Word as revealed thru His prophets.

Dear Anti-Mormons: Exaltation or becoming Gods does not involve us replacing God and becoming the subjects of our own self worship. It’s becoming joint heirs with Christ and partaking of everything the Father has, but it is NOT us overtaking him as the most high.

@ArgusofTalmud @dmh1125 Become gods BY living with God and JC. Lower case god is the type of being we will become. It diminishes nothing of the Father or JC. The patriarchical structure that we have today with the Godhead will remain in eternity

@absurdiumcom Heard for years that the suicide rate is among the men is the highest of religious groups and is now addressed through counseling groups, but not called counseling. Is this something that is an issue that is currently a church focus but kept a secret to mainstream?

In my quaint Texas town, a local Baptist Church paid to have a preacher come in to offer an open lecture to the community about how Latter-day Saints are a cult. Anyways, we had more investigators at Church that Sunday than ever. When you kick us, you kick us upstairs.

@MikeBarnes75 @esrtweet @IMAO_ I think the creed creators were overly focused on monotheism like you which led them astray to define the father, son and Holy Ghost as one being instead of separate beings.

@esrtweet @IMAO_ That utter nonsense mate. “As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may be.” Even if they claimed no man has ever attained exaltation ( which they don't) the possibility is the core belief in the 3 heavens. That's polytheism by definition

It’s strange to me all the focus on whether Mormons accept the trinity when it feels like there is a larger discussion on whether their faith is monotheistic.

I'm a polytheist and can address this. Yes, the LDS is monotheistic. Their mythology can be interpreted to speak of three separate gods, but the important point is that Mormons recognize only one source of truth, divine power, and authority. The important point about true polytheism is that they don't do this - they don't just have multiple gods in the mythology, each God is a distinct source of truth, power and religious authority. This is also why saints in Catholicism don't make it polytheistic. To sharpen the point: polytheisms sometimes mythologically have the concept of a single Unknown God or divine ground of being that is a unitary reality behind the visible gods - Brahman in Hinduism is an example. But this doesn't make them monotheisms because you can't make any authority claims on behalf of the Unknown God.

@erichard49 @antiantimormon @carleolson The definitions are so very different. This is one of the few posts actual explaining what you mean. This has been helpful. But I’m doubtful from what I’ve seen in x that the Trinitarians would actually agree with this post/thread.

@antiantimormon @carleolson The Trinity differentiates between a Person and a Being. They say they’re different Persons , but they’re the same Being. But they are totally unlike any other person and any other being. It’s all metaphysical. Three bodiless Persons are one immaterial Essence called a Being.

Spent a few moments on the official LDS site. As expected, much vague pablum. This, however, caught my eye: "The Holy Trinity is the term many Christian religions use to describe God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Latter-day Saints believe very strongly in all three, but we don’t believe they’re all the same person." Newsflash: No Christian believes they are the same person. This is either ignorance or worse.

@StrikeAnother1 @bi02247255 Many have said LDS are good people, but very few admonish us for our faith in JC. The Christian sphere can’t acknowledge that any of our goodness comes from our religion and conversion to JC.

@StrikeAnother1 @bi02247255 The most important thing for anyone’s salvation is a testimony of JC as their savior. Repentance then follows. That is not exclusive to the LDS church. We admonish all other sincere faiths and believers in this regard. We are offended that that isn’t reciprocated in the slightest

I'm interested in hearing from those who consider themselves Christian... There are over 45,000 different Christian religions. That's forty-five thousand! You can Google it. They all differ from each other in doctrine, beliefs, and practices. They can't all be the true religion - because they differ from each other. Which one is the true Christian faith, and how do you know?

This is angels dancing on the head of a pin level theology. Completely irrelevant. How God came to be is irrelevant. That’s why we focus on the first principles and ordinances of the gospel in our teaching and worship. It’s weird you focus on all the most extraneous and misunderstood beliefs

Sevatar — 'TOO SCHIZO TO DIE' Arc
@ibnDeseretii No, Catholics believe that God is unique and ontologically prior to all other being. He is contingent on nothing else. Mormons believe God was once a regular guy, who was created by another deity. He IS contingent on something else. By definition, Mormonism has multiple gods.

Arguing with Mormons is exhausting, because they have flat ontology. Everything is the same kind of being, and nothing is ontologically prior or superior.

We have more evidence in the physical world for simulation theory and the Mormon concept of God than we do of the unknowable Trinity. The concept of the trinity doesn’t make your head spin because it’s incomprehensibly wonderful. It’s incomprehensible because it’s dumb.

Obviously, the existence of our church is a massive threat to the "Christian" establishment. Their entire foundation is built upon the Nicene Creed which is what formalized the doctrine of the Trinity. We consistently destroy arguments for both and they hate us for it. We point out that their foundations are based on tradition, NOT the Bible. What shocks me, is the fact that we agree with these people on 87% of everything else across politics and culture. We don't go after their churches because we know we are all on the same side, or at least we should be. We know the actual enemy is Satan and his servants (Communists and Democrats).

You can hardly stick a shovel in the ground anywhere in the Middle East without turning up archaeological evidence of the veracity of the Bible. You cannot stick a shovel in the ground anywhere in the Americas and find any archaeological evidence of the veracity of the Book of Mormon.
