For those looking at my profile; I intentionally don’t say where I am from, but it’s clear where I currently live. Whether I’m an expat or not, and what nationality I am, I don’t say. My opinions are based on my exp, and yes can be wrong. Engage on points, not assumptions

@copesint He’s the type that needs deporting. Imagine being that hate filled, and that demented as to want to deport roughly 30% of the population.

@FennellJW @d1wn It’s different from scanning mail, because this would actually “see” the pictures on one’s device. So it’s more like reading someone’s mail for dangerous messages. If you’re ok with that, ok, but it’s much more invasive than scanning for explosives.

@PaulPallaghy @jimstewartson Or it could dive by 80%, once the market realizes the projects aren’t going quite as planned, only to recover if/once they finally do within a decade. This valuation is financially unsound, so unless they can maintain pure hype, it has to end somewhere.

@Aviation_Intel Honestly I could foresee all the European aircraft manufacturers plus Japan consolidating their efforts into one 6th gen mega project, while in the meantime procure upgraded F-35s and maybe a Rafale F6 variant that incorporate unmanned teaming and DEW weapons

@antlionai @AnalyticaCamil1 I get where he’s coming from. It does seem a bit wrong to be cheering for a war you won’t have to fight in, foot the bill for, or lose friends and family in. However I just think that’s an unavoidable part of geopolitics discussions.

@somewhatsecserv @AnalyticaCamil1 Yep. 100%. And handwaving vagueries like aggressor, etc. Is silly, its just presuming you are correct, and anyone can be on my side, but only virtuous veterans are allowed on your side. Its a bad argument.

@GuardianUSAF @Aviation_Intel They already have their own KFS program for a 6th generation fighter. It’ll be tough with the relatively limited budget Sweden has, and not having the same level of input as one gets from other advanced partners.

@Aviation_Intel I guess that it’s up to the Sweden to make something other than the Gripen. They might need financial assistance

@AnalyticaCamil1 @antlionai Ultimately if one’s gonna discuss geopolitics and war, there will come a time when one will have to support some military action that they have no personal physical stake in right now. However their view could be a correct one, or not. It’s still a discussion we all have

@AnalyticaCamil1 @antlionai I dunno man, I think you’re a bit off on this one. We can sit back and say that (for example) a coalition of African nations should attack Rwanda, kick them out of the Eastern DRC, and then kick them some more because they’re misbehaving elsewhere too. That would be no different

@AllThingsCivil @VADave649 Unfortunately the vetbros still think SecDef needs to handle small decisions and “know the troops”. It’s says how little they know of what the job actually is about. SecDef has the JCOS and CCMDs to advise him/her on what’s best for the troops.

@VADave649 It’s a civilian job. Zero military service required. *On purpose* People’s ignorance of the reason behind that is staggering.

@VADave649 It’s infuriating, but the vetbros still think the SecDef should handle all the decisions, as opposed to being a generalist running an org. The JCOS and CCMDs are there to advise on what it’s like being a soldier, and what’s best for the average SM, if needed.

@Sahara_LMR @AlexHollings52 They think others are soft, because today people complain of anxiety. They also don’t realize that the world in 1940 was very different to the world today. In many ways life has become more stressful, and in some ways less stressful. That’s too nuanced though for social media

@VoriesCraft @JamesSurowiecki TBF, no. Everyone has mixed the two, and there is a concerted effort to blur the lines for both sides, so that we only see each other as Nazis and Commies. There are plenty of non-far-left liberals, as I’m sure you’ll agree there are still non-far-right conservatives.

Life on this site is strange. I'm at home tweeting while ripping dvds of the Dean Martin Variety Show to my hard drive while a U.S. infantry officer is obsessively crashing out over my supposed Marxism. (For what it's worth, I'm not a Marxist, I'm a liberal.)

@brollbenny He likely already is. Just because his App Store location says US, doesn’t mean he is actually in the US. It’s an easy thing to spoof. There are a lot of accounts like that on here, and bot accounts based in US servers, but run out of places like Russia, China, etc

@saltyeng_ I couldn’t agree more. The world can be very vibrant, and filled with so many interesting things. We just need to be open minded, less judgemental, curious, and not be a dick.

Everyone has their own strengths, weaknesses, and interests. People should pursue the things they’re passionate about and not spend so much time worrying about what others think. At the end of the day, none of us knows everything. A little humility, a little selflessness, and an appreciation for what others bring to the table goes a long way.

I’ve never really understood this argument. We don’t live in a world where higher education is reserved for a handful of elites. Community colleges, state schools, the GI Bill, employer tuition assistance, scholarships, and online programs have made college more accessible than ever before. Is it perfect? No. But the idea that degrees are some exclusive club is decades out of date. What I find especially strange is the assumption that education and real-world experience are somehow opposites. Take the nuclear Navy. Before I ever touched a reactor plant at Prototype, I spent months in a classroom learning math, physics, thermodynamics, reactor theory, electrical engineering, chemistry, and radiological fundamentals. That wasn’t some academic exercise detached from reality. It was the foundation for everything that came afterward. You don’t learn reactor kinetics by gut instinct. You don’t troubleshoot electrical systems with feelings. You don’t safely operate complex equipment by guessing. You study the theory first, then you learn how to apply it. That’s how the nuclear Navy works. Power School teaches the fundamentals. Prototype teaches application. The fleet teaches mastery. Each phase builds on the one before it. The same thing is true across engineering, medicine, aviation, and countless other professions. Nobody wants the surgeon who skipped anatomy because they preferred “real-world experience.” Nobody wants the engineer designing a bridge based on vibes. The other thing that always makes me laugh is the idea that everyone with a Ph.D. spends their life hiding in academia. Most don’t. They work in industry, government, national labs, engineering firms, hospitals, technology companies, and research organizations solving real-world problems every day. And for the people who do stay in academia? Good. We need them too. Somebody has to teach the next generation of engineers, scientists, physicians, and researchers. The truth is that education and experience aren’t competing concepts. They’re partners. One without the other is incomplete. The modern world wasn’t built by people choosing between knowledge and experience. It was built by people who had both.
John W@txradioguy

@Asst_to_the_RM @infantrydort He's talking about the folks that spend their entire life in academia racking up degree after degree never living or working in reality...then working at some institute or think tank believing they're better than us and smarter than us because of all the letters after their name.
