USA 🇺🇸 1-2 🇩🇪 Germany Goals: Robinson - Havertz, Sane Both sides went almost full strength. USA: Whilst they lost the match, they dominated possession, created more xG, and had more attempts on goal (16). They did however create zero big chances which is a slight concern. Apps have this as a back four but I think this was a back five, so we’ll base this on the latter. Robinson started at LWB, Dest at RWB, as we’d expect. Ream, Freeman and Robinson played at CB. It’s fair to say fans were very unsettled about Robinson and Ream in that back three, Richards is still recovering but is expected to come in for Robinson, if he can make it that is. Tillman and Adams played in CM, the former isn’t a guaranteed starter at all. Pulisic started on the left, he played for around an hour, McKennie played an attacking role as well, with Balogan ahead of them. Robinson scored a banger from range, he also created three key passes. Dest was poor on the opposite side. Pulisic had three attempts but failed to make an impact on the game McKennie had one shot, one key pass. Balogan had three attempts, one key pass. Germany: Germany won but probably didn’t deserve to, they were dominated in most metrics outside of their one big chance. Baumann started in goal, but Neuer was on the bench after recovering from injury Brown started ahead of Raum again, the latter played half an hour and got booked, he can’t be trusted as an asset Schlotterbeck and Tah were in CB, Kimmich in RB as we’d expect Pavlovic and Nmecha started in CM, this is where Germany lack in my opinion, although both have had good seasons. It was their strongest attack who started: Sane on the RW after Karl was injured. Fans aren’t ever happy with Sane, he came off for Lewelling, as we would expect Havertz played up front. Outside of Neuer it looks like their starting XI in Round 1 Kimmich played an hour, got an assist, one big chance , three key passes The fans may complain about Sane, but he scored, took some free kicks, four attempts on goal, but zero creativity Musiala was poor, in fact some fans are calling on Undav to start in his replacement Wirtz was also quiet with one attempt and one key pass Havertz, scored, assisted, one shot on goal, three key passes, player of the match arguably Undavs injury wasn’t that bad at all as he featured off the bench , did little though Germany again show inconsistent performances which is what many are concerned by with them going into this, but USA are no mugs and are at home.
