People don't give you positive advice to help you heal. They give you positive advice to shut you up.
When you finally open up about being severely depressed, they instantly hit you with "just go to the gym," "pray about it," "talk to god," or "just choose to be happy." They aren't actually trying to solve your heavy problems.
They are throwing generic, Instagram-quote platitudes at you because your raw reality is making them deeply uncomfortable, and they need the heavy conversation to end immediately.
It is just a polite way of saying, "Your sadness is ruining my mood, please package it back up and hide it so we can go back to having fun."
If your pain cannot be fixed with a quick motivational speech or a distraction, modern friendships have absolutely no idea what to do with you. You are entirely on your own

Stop making fun of people for falling for this. They do not teach basic internet safety in schools anymore. This is how we teach people what malicious files look like.
Ffs there are children on this site who don’t know better. Not everything is about you

A trigger I often see
in trauma survivors is the way emotional inconsistency shakes their entire sense of safety. They're fine one moment, then spiraling the next. All it takes is a change in tone. A delayed reply. A shift in energy. It's not because they're dramatic. It's because inconsistency once meant danger. It meant betrayal. Or abandonment. Or punishment without warning.
