Today, Austria joined the Enlarged Partial Agreement (EPA) of the Special Tribunal on the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. #Accountability is a key trajectory of Austria’s foreign policy. There can be no lasting peace in Ukraine without accountability.

Just spoke with Prime Minister @CMShehbaz of Pakistan. I congratulated him on his efforts in facilitating the ceasefire between Iran and the United States. I assured him of Austria’s full support for a diplomatic solution to end the war. Freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law must be ensured. The #Russian Supreme Court’s decision to label Nobel Peace Prize laureate #Memorial as an extremist organization is yet another incomprehensible and drastic step of repression against fundamental freedoms and accountability in Russia and beyond.

Grateful to be elected to the UN-Commission on the Status of Women for 2027–2031. Austria will continue to work with partners to advance gender equality and uphold the rights and opportunities of women and girls worldwide.

How can the implementation of sanctions from #UNSC be improved? The Office of the Ombudsperson has been critical in strengthening due process standards and ultimately the #rule_of_law.

Heute jährt sich das Massaker von Butscha zum vierten Mal. Die Bilder von damals haben sich tief eingebrannt: das Grauen auf offener Straße, die Spuren russischer Besatzung, die Brutalität gegen unschuldige Menschen. Wir gedenken heute der Opfer von Butscha und all jener, die in Russlands Angriffskrieg unermessliches Leid erfahren haben. Ihr Schicksal verpflichtet uns, diese Verbrechen niemals zu vergessen. Russische Kriegsverbrechen müssen aufgeklärt und die Täter zur Rechenschaft gezogen werden. Es darf keine Straffreiheit geben. Deshalb setzen wir uns dafür ein, dass das Sondertribunal über das Verbrechen der Aggression gegen die Ukraine rasch Realität wird.

Die Todesstrafe ist unmenschlich und mit dem Recht auf Leben und der Menschenwürde nicht vereinbar. Österreich setzt sich seit Jahren für die weltweite Abschaffung der Todesstrafe ein. Wir sprechen uns ausnahmslos und unter allen Umständen dagegen aus. Die Annahme des Gesetzes zur Ausweitung der Todesstrafe ist ein Rückschritt für Israel, den wir entschieden ablehnen. oe1.orf.at/player/2026033…
