Greg Olsen, his father Chris Olsen, Sr. (NJ high school coaching legend), Luke Kuechly, and Jonathan Stewart coach a middle school football team together in Charlotte.
You'd think they know it all.
They don't.
What's the one thing Olsen learned this season?

There's a new reality settling in youth athletic world ...
Early specialization
Combined with:
Early intensification
You got parents pushing their preadolescents' kids into playing and practicing one sport all year round and then, thinking they're getting a leg up, getting them involved in "performance" training at the same time. The problem is the performance training isn't run, hop skip and jump that kids really need, rather it's resembles the training program of a college athlete.
We all know what happens with early specialization, but early intensification isn't as prevalent yet. But imagine an athlete never reaching their peak because they skipped right over all the basic training methods and went right into the advanced stuff too soon.
What you get is stud youth athlete who fizzles out in so many ways down the road.
Kids need need fun. They need movement, they need variety and diversity, and they need to be engaged. They need to run, jump, hop, skip, climb , crawl, and wrestle. Get that right, and you set the kids up for future success whether they're elite or recreational athlete.

I've heard this from so many pros over my years covering high school sports, and it never gets old. Listen to Kirk Cousins talk about Friday Night Lights. @chriscfore you'll love this as will everyone who understands the beauty of high school sports.

Great post by Joe. To repeat, your child under 11 does not need a trainer, they need to play.

In the last month, I have gotten roughly 10 inquiries about training athletes, both in person and online for kids, aged 7-10. I don’t want to compete with myself here, but I’m also in this field for the right reasons so trust me… Your 7-10 year does not need structured training with me at my facility or online outside of 👇 Go outside. Play sports. Sprint in the grass. Climb things. Jump. Throw. Land. Jump and twist in the air. Skip. Bound. Don’t do a ton of slow jogging. Do some air squats/ push ups. Sprint hills. Play tag. Make up a game. Sprint some more. If you trust me, come back to me at 11-12 and we can talk about “learning to train” in the weight room.
