We've got an east-west split in the weather 👇 Have an umbrella handy if you're in the west ☔ Sunglasses at the ready, for now at least, in the east 😎

It's a dull and damp picture in the west this afternoon with outbreaks of rain ☔ Turning downhill for eastern areas as the cloud and rain pushes in later 🌧️ Breezy but feeling pleasant in any sunshine initially ⛅

Gardeners beware! You may want to cover any tender plants you've already planted out because there's a chance of a frost tonight in prone locations in the countryside 📉🌡️

Scattered heavy showers continuing into the first part of this evening with a few thundery downpours possible 🌦️ Many places will however remain dry with some late sunshine, though turning cool quite quickly after dark as skies clear 🌘

Showers again this week with the west seeing the most of these, there’ll be some sunshine too and a warming trend. Yes there’s something for everyone, as is often the case in April. Bringing you this week’s weather forecast is Alex Deakin.

It's been a changeable day. Harmless looking clouds one moment, then all of a sudden, dark and angry looking skies🌤️➡️⛈️ This is typical of April. Clouds bubble up as it gets warmer and is where the proverb "April showers" comes from 🌦️ Have you been caught in a downpour?

We're in peak tree pollen season with birch and ash pollen particularly prevalent at the moment 🤧🌳 The highest pollen counts will be across England through the coming days, especially during any sunnier and warmer periods 🌤️

The cloud is now bubbling up with April showers breaking out 🌦️ Recent radar and satellite imagery show these currently focussed across southern England, Wales and parts of Scotland. Isolated cracks of thunder and hail are possible as they drift north-eastwards ⛈️

Through the month of April the sun is gaining strength☀️ Today is a good example of convection over land. This occurs when the ground heats up, leading to air rising and rapidly cooling, causing the development of cumulus clouds and showers🌦️ 👀Look at the change in 3 hours 👇

Shower clouds bubbling up widely this afternoon with some hefty April showers possible and hail and thunder in places. However, as is the nature of showers, some places will remain dry 🌦️ Much lighter winds than over the weekend, and therefore feeling warmer in the sunshine 🌤️
