Birmingham City University (BCU) has received a transformational new $2.75 million donation from BCU alumnus Cal Henderson - the British tech entrepreneur and co-founder of Slack - to scale up a major initiative tackling under-representation in the UK’s technology and engineering sectors. 🎓 The latest gift, made by Cal and his wife Rebecca through the Henderson Family Foundation, follows an initial $500,000 donation that funded a pilot scheme during the 2024/25 academic year. A pioneering Digital Twin developed by Birmingham City University (BCU) is helping families in Walsall monitor and improve indoor air quality - making a life-changing difference for children living with asthma. The project, led by researchers from BCU’s School of the Built Environment, has created a virtual replica of a real-life home that uses live sensor data to track pollutant levels such as dust and carbon dioxide. Birmingham City University (BCU) is using a speed-dating style networking format to break down barriers and build career pathways for Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs) from Global Majority backgrounds - connecting them directly with employers from across the West Midlands. Held on 30 September at The Old Library in Digbeth, The Talent XChange paired 16 PGRs with 17 employer representatives for a series of timed, one-to-one conversations, followed by interactive panel discussions. The event forms part of BCU’s ground-breaking project, That's Me!
