@dwaynewill1177@pokemon_daily Everyone does because of ONE article from who knows how long ago. There IS a BIT of leopard inspiration in the DESIGN but that doesn't mean that's what Suicune's based on.
@ManuDev95@Krolliox@pokemon_daily My points for the mythical creatures still stand pretty strong here.
Komainu is half dog half lion so him being a dog doesn't change much.
Raiju are lightning creatures that can possess any mammal. So both cats AND dogs.
And beta Suicune still looks pretty equine-esque.
@Paladin_Toriike@pokemon_daily I've seen too many similarities between Suicune and the mythical creature qilin, which has some equine traits. Which adds to that beast being any kind of mammal idea.
@pokemon_daily Suicune doesn’t really look like a leopard but does make me think canine. Entei looks more like a dog to me than a lion but I can see how it’s a lion. But “beast” doesn’t mean feline nor does it mean canine. They are beasts and I’ll call them that
@theweirdinggay@SapphireMan01@pokemon_daily I think there's some small leopard traits in the design to make Suicune easier to draw. That doesn't mean Suicune is inspired by a leopard, just that one was used to help with designing it.
Suicune doesn't strike me as a leopard either. I've been convinced that it's Kirin.
@SapphireMan01@pokemon_daily Buddy, I've been playing these games since the 90s, I know when Suicune was introduced. And yeah, it's so stylized that it no longer looks anything like a leopard. Hence the jokes about it not looking like a leopard.
@pokemon_daily Entei definitely looks more canine, and its dex entry says it barks.
Though I still prefer “legendary beasts” over “dogs” since they do have a mix of feline and canine traits imo
@DragonLord619@KTXPLOSION_@pokemon_daily There is some dog in that creature too.
"Inu" literally means dog in Japanese.
Also Fun fact Arcanine is also based off of one.
@Krolliox@pokemon_daily I got the info from Pokemon Wiki.
I've also seen that article too many times already.
First off. that writing clearly says "leopard-LIKE design". They used those animals to help design the beasts. That doesn't mean that's the one and only creature that they're based on.
@NeoEgo2@pokemon_daily Suicune being a Qilin/Kirin from Asian mythology is way more fitting. Johto is already very Japanese. Both creatures share the trait of purifying things. Now Suicune's design does have leopard attributes for artistic purposes, but that's just in the design.
