I have met several indolent ‘geniuses’ who took 8+ years to finish their perfunctory undergraduate education, some are still ‘writing’ that novel 20 years later. We all know people for whom art is a convenient social cover for sloth and solipsism. The proof is ultimately in the pudding; does the work eventually appear or not? Eccentricity is justified if grounded in substance. Genius is rarely clean, but there are plenty of bums who are not geniuses.
