@Netwerkin666 Modded 1982 Gibson SG. All gold hardware was taken off (but kept). Pickups swapped with Matt Pike Firespitters. I wanted a Norlin era Doom/Stoner metal guitar so I dialed it in. Now it’s truly MY GUITAR and not some cookie cutter bullshit straight out the box.

@Netwerkin666 Can we just have one space to talk about guitar mods without the whole "stop modding and learn to play" lecture? If you don't mod your guitars, more power to you. The question was still about mods, and some like customizing to optimize and make the guitar best suited for them.

@Netwerkin666 I rarely mod my guitars, but when I do it's usually the pickups, or to replace worn out parts like pots and switches.

@Netwerkin666 I’m kinda diggin seeing all these guys getting into modding guitars. It’s a geetar player’s version of hot rodding a custom car. It’s its own thing. I plan on building something hot rodded. But ya, hot rodding your guitar is no substitute for wood shedding.

@Netwerkin666 I used to get ahead of myself and automatically replace stock pickups, pots, etc. I’ve learned to find out if it’s broke before I start fixing it.

@Netwerkin666 If every guitar you acquire is a Squier or somebody's old broken stuff then you're going to be doing a lot of modding, especially since failed mods are the reason for the old broken stuff. I wouldn't mess around with something costing $2000 though. Presumably it is already good!

@Netwerkin666 Reading music is completely unnecessary for guitar players. Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Prince, Eric Clapton, BB King, Paul McCartney, --none of them could read music

@Netwerkin666 Reading music is one of the last skills I’d recommend for guitar players. Developing your ear and learning theory is way more important. Chord charts are a lot more functional than traditional notation, which is bad in general but especially bad for guitar.

@Netwerkin666 I would mod more stuff but I don’t feel like I’m good enough to warrant it. I’m not making studio recordings or anything. I have a few hot rods but not many. I do think it’s strange when guys with molasses hands mod stuff. I agree with you there, modding is pointless if u suck

@Netwerkin666 What does the one thing have to do with the other? People can enjoy modding and still learn how to play better, you know.

@Netwerkin666 I try to buy guitars that don't need any mods. Tom Anderson, Suhr, Music Man, and core PRS guitars are a good example.

@Netwerkin666 How ‘bout you do whatever makes you happy, without someone who knows nothing about you criticizing you or telling you what to do — and everyone else gets to do the same? Or is that a problem for you?
