I have started work on my Artemis III infographic. While working on the models, I had this side thought. Instead of potentially rushing to have an orbital test HLS Starship ready for Artemis III (obviously it will not need to be a fully functional lander), which will be disposed of after the mission, why not refit a current Block 3 with a forward pressure section and docking port. By then, you would think SpaceX will have performed several Starship catches, it’s a perfect opportunity to test its docking ability and add another catch test, no wasted components. What are your thoughts, do you think that this is something they have considered?

@Booster__14 Decreasing g-loading at the end of the LLO capture burn. I think the limiting factor will be the shear loading on the docking ring. I think I heard it could take 3kN of shear meaning a 27t Orion+ESM at 0.111g lateral acceleration from that gimballed SL Raptor to counter torque

@BassonBrain @JustinCanels @SawyerMerritt yea, its not an issue if your telescope is millions of miles from said sattelites, but it can still hurt amateur astronomy, unless we move said people to orbit

@JustinCanels @SawyerMerritt They can place all future telescopes in orbit, resulting in zero weather and other interference, same priciple as what NASA has done, and look at the amazing images we're getting. There's potentially a few 100 thousand sats incoming (incl. from the Chinese)

@montanabohemian You're assuming there was one uniquely "best" crew. Deke Slayton's philosophy, for example, was that multiple crews could successfully fly a mission. When several highly qualified combinations are possible, it's reasonable to ask why the final selection ended up being all male

everyone mad about no women on artemis iii somehow missed that like the whole crew are all basically fighter pilots. which is needed to test, you know, DOCKING THE LANDER IN SPACE. like am i the only one that was paying attention.

We were literally told ages ago that the landers on Artemis III would be simplified for fast tracking. Why are people so upset that Starship will just be V3 with a docking port??

1500 starship launches in 2028 but we gotta dock to V3 off the line for A3

Saying SpaceX using an only slightly modified ship for A3 is showing they are behind schedule doesn’t seem very logical, it gives them more time to work on HLS because they are not wasting one just for Orion to dock with in LEO. The HLS demo was always a different mission too.

This may be a controversial take but Relativity is way more open than SpaceX. In fact SpaceX really isn't that open at all and we only know so much about Starship dev because they happened to build Starbase right next to a public highway.

@MikegazaurusR @NinRedtro @TheDoctorLogos They have sent plenty of things throughout the years around the moon, and into it's orbit, landed a few rovers on Mars, sent payloads past the inner planets to Jupiter and Saturn, and touched the Sun, they still got it.

@NinRedtro @TheDoctorLogos Thank Jimmy Carter. Afaik he made NASA turn their telescopes around and observe climate change or some shit and because of that the know-how of how to land on the Moon was lost.
