Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is actively participating in the ongoing 16th Annual Higher Education Exhibition organized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), currently taking place in Gulu from 26th to 28th March 2026. This year’s exhibition is held under the theme: “Harnessing Innovation in Higher Education for Accelerated Economic Transformation,” a timely focus that highlights the critical role universities play in driving research, innovation, and national development. UMU has already set ground at the exhibition, with key faculties proudly representing the institution’s academic strength and practical impact. Among those showcasing are the Faculty of Built Environment (FOBE), alongside Science and Agriculture Faculties, each presenting innovative projects, research outputs, and solutions tailored to community and national needs. The exhibition provides a dynamic platform for institutions of higher learning across Uganda to interact, exchange ideas, and demonstrate how academic programs are evolving to meet the demands of industry and society. It also creates an opportunity for prospective students, stakeholders, and the public to engage directly with universities and explore available academic pathways. 📍 Kyegegwa District UGANET conducted a three-day training at Kaingani CEPAC Church in Nkaakwa Sub-county, equipping participants with practical tools to strengthen household decision-making and promote gender justice. The training introduced the GALS methodology, supporting families to plan their future together, ensure every voice is heard, and take action toward shared goals. Participants were also encouraged to apply the SASA! Together approach to build collective agency in preventing violence against women and girls and promoting the responsible use of power for gender equality. Discussions further focused on joint agricultural decision-making, with participants identifying challenges, developing collaborative solutions, and committing to actionable steps to improve household well-being and agricultural productivity. The sessions also addressed harmful social norms that hinder joint decision-making in climate change adaptation, climate-smart agriculture, and natural resource management. By strengthening shared decision-making and challenging unequal power dynamics, communities are better positioned to advance gender equality and sustainable livelihoods. #GenderEquality #EndGBV #SASATogether #GALS #URRI #UGANET4SocialJustice

📍 Kayunga District UGANET is on the ground implementing a Legal Aid Camp to bring justice closer to communities. Through these engagements, community members are being equipped with legal knowledge and supported to better understand and claim their rights. Women and children continue to emerge as the most vulnerable, particularly facing domestic violence, GBV, and discrimination in the sharing of estates. Land disputes also remain widespread, with some villages reporting violence and the use of “Bijambiya.” So far, more than 10 villages have been reached, strengthening awareness, promoting peaceful dispute resolution, and improving access to justice. Justice should not depend on where you live. Legal empowerment is key to protecting rights and preventing abuse. #AccessToJustice #LegalAid #UGANET4SocialJustice

📍 Kyegegwa District UGANET participated in the URRI Project Business-to-Business Linkage Market event held on March 24, 2026, at the Food Distribution Point in Byabakora I, Nkanja Sub-county, Kyaka II Refugee Settlement. The event provided an opportunity to showcase UGANET’s interventions under the URRI Project, including promoting access to SRHR and GBV information and services, advancing social norms change, strengthening GBV referral pathways, supporting menstrual hygiene management, and building collective agency and leadership among communities. UGANET also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance partnerships around agriculture, climate change adaptation, and environmental and natural resource management, all aimed at advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the rights of both host and refugee communities. The engagement created space to connect with partners, share experiences, and explore collaboration opportunities, while strengthening market linkages for refugee-led businesses and host communities. #UGANET4SocialJustice #URRI

Adjumani District — Yesterday, UGANET represented the @RESCUEorg Consortium in a reflective meeting organised by @PlanUganda to assess the status of gender equality in the district. The engagement brought together partners implementing GBV interventions to review progress, identify challenges, and explore opportunities to strengthen efforts toward gender equality. Participants highlighted persistent barriers, including harmful cultural practices such as early marriage, forced marriage, and wife inheritance. Deep-rooted social norms that position men as sole heads of households were also noted as slowing behavioral and attitude change. Limited male involvement in community engagement activities and funding gaps were further identified as challenges affecting progress. To address these gaps, stakeholders recommended scaling up male engagement in gender equality interventions and strengthening collaboration with cultural and religious leaders to help challenge harmful norms. Participants also emphasized that behavioral and attitude change is a gradual process, calling for sustained engagement with both men and women, continued investment, and patience to achieve meaningful and lasting gender equality. UGANET remains committed to working with partners and communities to advance gender equality and strengthen responses to gender-based violence. #UGANET4SocialJustice

Another important reason we are in Nwoya District today: strengthening community awareness on HIV and TB and the role access to justice plays in ending both. UGANET is engaging communities and partners to address stigma, discrimination, and other structural barriers that continue to limit access to testing, treatment, and care. These conversations are critical in ensuring that services are not only available, but also accessible and rights-based. In the video, UGANET’s Advocacy Officer underscores the importance of continued community engagement, early testing, and collective action to support prevention and treatment efforts as we work toward ending HIV and TB.
