Behaviour management is not about the young people, behaviour management is about the adults. A regulated calm adult can regulate a dysregulated, anxious child. But,a dysregulated adult can never regulate a dysregulated child. They need to be met in their nervous system states.🧠🌱

“If I could give you one thought, it would be to lift someone up. Lift a stranger up - lift her up. I would ask you, mother and father, brother and sister, lovers, mother and daughter, father and son, lift someone. The very idea of lifting someone up will lift you, as well.”

Many of us grew up in enmeshed families where we didn’t get a chance to know who we actually are. And we were expected to be someone we weren’t. HERE’S THE IMPACT 🧵:

This is why it is very unhealthy for teachers to "SHOUT" at young people with a traumatic developmental history. Their home environment was abusive ,lots of shouting, their brain will make associations, visual images and threat activating their Fight,Flight,Freeze response.🧠🌱
Gerry🧠🌱@gerrydiamond71

The brain processes sensory information in a sequential way. The reptilian brain being the first part to act on it. It's a 3 part process to get to that smart rational brain. 1.Reactive Regulatory. 2.Emotional (Limbic). 3.Rational.(Cortex).

A child who wasn’t able to emotionally develop, becomes the adult who: takes everything personally, is highly defensive, & struggles to voice what they actually feel. HERE’S WHY (🧵):
