If your hummingbird feeder is sitting in full sun, you might be accidentally poisoning the birds. The heat speeds up everything that goes wrong. Yeast and bacteria multiply fast, the nectar starts to ferment, and black mold develops in the feeder ports. After a couple days in direct afternoon sun, the nectar is probably no longer good for the birds. Some of them get sick from it. Some get fungal infections in their throats that can kill them. Move the feeder to dappled shade, or somewhere it gets only morning sun and shade by noon. The hummingbirds will still find it. They notice every red object in your yard within hours. The hummingbirds don't care where the feeder is, they'll still be happy you put it up.

So when you come around a bend and there are turkey vultures eating roadkill in the lane, the bird closest to your car is doing the math: how much time do I need, and how much do you have. Most of the time they make it. Sometimes they don't, and then there are two carcasses on the road instead of one, and the next vulture down the line gets hit doing the same job. If you see vultures on or near the road, ease off the gas early. Give them the extra five seconds. They will get out of the way if you let them. Vultures are doing the cleanup nobody else volunteered for. They're the reason your local roads aren't lined with rotting deer in summer. The least you can do is let them keep at it.
