Dan Severn epitomised the spirit of the travelling NWA World's Champion in 1997, touching down in IWA Japan for a tour built entirely around him. Severn defended his belt twice on the tour, picking up victories over Leatherface and The Great Kabuki. Imagine an MMA legend sharing a ring with figures more at home in a horror film. That was Tuesday for Dan Severn. His most intriguing encounter, however, came against Daikokubo Benkei in an Ultimate Special Rules match. A BJW legend and former sumo, Benkei was a man built for punishment and more than comfortable in the chaos of hardcore wrestling. Severn submitted him inside inside six minutes. Different world.
