@Otto342 @nelson_brands Congrats, Texas tech just allowed players to bet on / against themselves. This will set a nice precedent.

@BYUSportsNation Sorsby isn't going to play. If TT plays him, then he loses in court, the NCAA will vacate anything they do this year anyway.

QOTD - In your opinion what’s more likely: Brendan Sorsby does NOT play quarterback for Texas Tech this season OR teams ACTUALLY boycott playing Texas Tech?

@utahfootballgm Utah's is .597 while also playing in a power conference for only 15 years? 😬

Be Texas Tech football: - Suck forever - Have an all time winning percentage of .557 (utah's in .597) - Become new money rich - Buy every player you can - Get your back blown out by Oregon's most pathetic team in decades in the CFP - Rinse and repeat

@BYUSportsNation Utah. Integrity of the game matters. I am so glad I am a fan of a school who would never consider allowing Sorsby to play.

I think it's insane that a state judge can temporarily tell the NCAA they aren't allowed to enforce a rule that every student-athlete agreed to follow. I say temporarily because this is just an injunction, and I'd wager the NCAA would (will?) ultimately prevail at trial. I also don't think betting pennies on your own team from the literal stands warrants losing out on a season 4 years later, when there's a 100% chance that the integrity of games was never compromised. It's a really harsh penalty. It is difficult to rationalize those two thoughts. But it is possible to believe them at the same time. Regardless, the notion that Tech Football should seppuku itself by not playing Sorsby is hilarious. After all, a conference opponent that knowingly played Sorsby lobbed this grenade into Tech's lap. And we're only a few years removed from conference realignment meaning Tech Football could be in the Mountain West or WAC. They tried (and are still trying) to kill us. There is no honor to restore in college football.

The judge's son in law is a Tech alum. His daughter lives in Lubbock. Also, he worked in Tarrant County, Texas… which is 30 mins away from Cedar Hill high school, where Tech’s coach Joey McGuire won 3 state championships and was a coaching legend. Pretending he isn't "local" because of where he went to law school 40 years ago is LAUGHABLE
Jarrett Ramirez@JarrettDRamirez

Judge Ken Curry, who ruled on Brendan Sorsby’s case, is a University of Houston law graduate, did his undergrad at UT-Arlington and last practiced in Fort Worth. The “local judge” talk after this Sorsby ruling is simply uneducated.

At this point, Texas Tech needs to part way with Sorsby. Even if it requires that you potentially have to eat $5 million in NIL money to make the situation go away. They seem to be willing to put the entire program in jeopardy over this. If they cannot see that, then they deserve everything coming their way. All of this over one player…

@TylersTakes This would be incorrect as well. He's a retired judge from Tarrant County. And the process after the first judge recused himself was that he was assigned the case by a A&M undergrad/Baylor Law graduate.

Sorry Tech fans, the Tech alum judge recused himself. My bad. I should’ve said local Lubbock judge who may or may not have been paid off Cody Campbell*

-Texas Tech pays $5 million dollars for an in-conference transfer QB -QB gets caught betting on his former team while he was on the roster -Texas Tech finds alumni judge -QB remains eligible. College Football in 2026. The sicko in me kinda likes it. Not really, but kinda.

@Carson_OKC It’s how you play the judicial system. The NCAA could put Tech on probation this season if they play Sorsby and then fight it out in court.

@Juz_10 Like I said, the judge's address would've been on a Texas Tech message board hours ago if he'd ruled a different way. It's much easier for his life to just rule the way he ruled. Suggesting otherwise is obviously dumb/gullible/stupid.

I usually like it when the NCAA loses in court. But today felt different. We all decided a long time ago that gambling on the sport you play should be a career-ender. But Brendan Sorsby, some great lawyers and a judge facing community pressure just said otherwise. Not great.

@GaryParrishCBS That judge wasn't feeling any community pressure. He's a retired judge 300 miles away in Tarrant County. Selected by a Baylor and A&M Law grad after the Lubbock County judge recused himself.

@Otto342 @Okla_OAG He bet on his team. Why wouldn’t he bet next year? No consequence. Last year to play. This is ridiculous in any sport you can’t bet.

I'm outraged at a court's decision to unilaterally reinstate a star player for the Texas Tech football program and set a horrific precedent in a case involving serial betting on his own team. Rules exist for a reason, and this player clearly violated reasonable standards instituted by the NCAA. sports.yahoo.com/college-footba…

As with many around the country, I am disheartened by the injunction issued today in the Brendan Sorsby matter, which will allow him to compete this fall despite clear violations of NCAA policies and ethical guidelines. (1 of 2)
