🚨 The story of Swiggy’s cap table 🧮
A pivotal moment for Swiggy and founder Sriharsha Majety arrived with their Series B round in mid 2015—a $17 mn raise led by Norwest Venture Partners at a $53 million valuation.
While this funding round helped set Swiggy on its path, it also forged two key connections that would shape the company’s journey over the next decade.
Sumer Juneja, then a principal at Norwest, led the deal. Years later, after becoming SoftBank Investment Advisers India’s head, Juneja would return to Swiggy with a major $500 million investment in 2021.
But Juneja wasn’t the only advocate Swiggy gained in 2015.
Ashutosh Sharma, a colleague at Norwest, initially urged Juneja to consider Swiggy while scouting the food delivery space. Sharma later became head of Prosus Ventures (then Naspers) in India and, from there, directed one of the largest single bets of over $1 billion on #Swiggy, creating a long-standing partnership with an investor that remains a central part of Swiggy’s success story.
